That was a nice 1 timer by heetal as the Rangers tried to pass it into the net. Shatt looks like he will fit in nicely with the "I dont want to shoot" crew.

Some good and some bad -

Chytil looked good all night. I think he's got an outside shot at making the team, OT goal or not.
Shattenkirk has lived up to his billing so far. Skates well with the puck and he's fixed the PP.
Andersson had another strong game. Held off the scoresheet but he'll be a late cut if he makes it.
Kreider looked good but he looks good every preseason and we wonder if this is the season he breaks out and it never is.
Desharnais was visible and effective.
Gilmour actually surprised me, better than I thought.
Tambellini had some shifts where he would disappear but he's a hard worker and has a little jam in his game.
Smith looked like he was in mid-season form.
ZUUUUUUUUUCCCCC!!!

The bad,
Staal does not look any better. I don't blame him solely for the PPG, but sliding out of position to try to block a shot makes it easy on a talented forward.
Gropp was a huge disappointment. I would love for him to take the next step to the AHL but would not be surprised if he was sent back to juniors tomorrow. It's looking more and more like he can't play without Barzal.
Desjardins can't play in this league anymore.

My take

Shattenkirk with a 3 point night. I don't see a guy who is deficient on defense, either. A bigger man than I thought.
Kreider in go mode... looks great.
Zuccarello is ready.
Hayes and Vesey are ready
Skjei is ready
Chytil will definitely get another look
Puempel wants to be a regular
Andersson was buried on the 4th line with no support, but got a couple chances... a shot on goal, and set up a guy for a golden opportunity
Deshernais wasn't bad...

Smith didn't have a great game imo... not worried
Not as bad as Staal, though
Tambellini was invisible
Gropp.... Hartford... I still like him, but cut
Lundqvist should make the team

Georgiev didn't play bad.... neither did Halversson the other night. Will be a battle in Hartford

I hope this whole faceoff infraction stuff is just being called this strict in preseason to show everyone what the league wants.... If there's this many penalties this year, there may be a riot.... I'll be yelling at the linesmen all night on Saturday....

Before I get to worked up about who's making it and not I want to see guys play at least two games. I want to see more of Desjardin he's got 400 games in the league there's something there we just haven't seen it. Gropp should get another game, not because he earned but, you have to give him the squeezing the stick game and see if he's more involved in his next and last game if he's not. Reality is for the brass to be happy if he has any kind of year in Hartford.
Chytil was a huge surprise and not because he scored which was nice but two shifts and you could see the skating, Vision, and confidence. A spot is there as the number three center for the taking, and he's probably got a offensive edge over Andersson. After watching him tonight there is no doubt he's physically ready, he's big and strong enough to handle it. At this point in time I'm going to be suprised if he doesn't make it. He is so close to being eligible for next seasons draft it's ridiculous, and would have been a top pick candidate. If he can crack the top nine it leaves a possible fourth line of Andersson, Fast, and Grabner and realistically for Anderssons game might be a good fit for him to get a year under his belt. I didn't like the idea of him on a fourth line, but centering Grabner and Fast should allow him some offensive opportunity to improve that part of his game. If it works out that way for those two it frees Miller up to be on one of the top two lines where he belongs. But the worm can turn in a hurry with kids so it has to play out some more through camp.

Tambellini first time I've heard his name.
lol - that's what I had been thinking about Puempel until he dropped the gloves. I honestly thought to that point that maybe they changed and he didn't dress.

Re Tambellini, his OT shift was awful, can't recall the others in regulation

Pretty much spot on. Wasn't as impressed with Gilmour but he was paired with Staal, so there's that. Desharnais was given quality time (lots of PP) and with quality linemates. So yes - he did look pretty good and he did go to the front of the net to get a hit me with the puck into the net goal. Gropp - I mentioned earlier, doesn't look ready yet despite what one person on this board would have you think. Desjardins - perhaps the worst forward on the ice for the Rangers. Not fast, not strong on his feet - please end this experiment quickly.

I must have slept through his shifts I didn't hear his name til overtime. He's not making the Rangers and needs a better year in Hartford to become a callup possibility.

I didn't like Gilmours game at all. That one goal against he was lost once got back in the play and then let the guy who scored slip behind him to the net when the Rangers had the numerical advantage in front of the net.

Staal is getting beat up over the goal he slid over to Stafford at the corner of the net when Stafford had the puck and a clear path to the net. Staal managed to take Stafford out of the equation and Staffords option of a cross crease pass where NJD'S had another open guy. So he's eliminated two guys from the play and Stafford still had a open Gibbons to pass to in the slot because Andersson made the wrong read and got him self in no mans land looking at the guy at the far post instead of grabbing Gibbons. He had plenty of time to at least take Gibbons stick away. But that's how fast it can happen and kid just made the wrong read. Making those decisions and making the right decisions at the NHL level a lot of times is the difference between sticking in the NHL and not. That's part of his acceptable learning curve in camp. Staal actually made a hell of a play and decisionIMO taking away the more dangerous far post tap in option.. There is no way that goal is on him.

Kreider Zibanejad Zuccarello
Nash Hayes Miller
Vesey Chytil Buchnevich
Grabner Andersson Fast/Deshernais

Would be excellent if the rookies stay consistent.

Would really like to see Chytil with Buchnevich next game. I feel their skills would compliment each other. Add Vesey for some size...

Don't want to get my hopes up too high.... When you're out there 4 on 3 with Kreider Zuccarello and Shattenkirk, you're in a position to succeed.

That isn't to take away from the kid... he had good 5 on 5 shifts, too. Drawing penalties. Controlling the puck. Making good skilled passes and plays with great skating and vision. No denying any of that.

But it was just one game. The rookie mistake is bound to happen. AV definitely sheltered him, but he definitely looked good enough to take the training wheels off, and get him more regular shifts... maybe defensive zone draw or two.

After last night, I'm very antsy to see McDonagh and Shattenkirk together!!!

Also, the only player we haven't seen yet is Zibanejad who has every reason to have a break out year as a 24/25 year old. Chytil was good with Kreider and Zucc.... Zibanejad with those two should be a force

I don't think Gilmour is going to make the team or anything, he just looked pretty good for a guy that gets zero hype. Strikes me as the kind of guy that has a long AHL career with a couple of injury callups along the way.

Rangers have Staal, Holden, Graves, Bryzgalov, Pionk, DeAngelo and Gilmour albeit at the bottom of the pile to pick 3 defenseman to fill out the roster. Kampfer is in the mix also because double mint likes saying Campy. I don't remember them ever having that level of talent. You take Holden and Gilmour out of the equation and there are 5 capable candidates for the 5,6,7, holes. I'm a lot happier with this years depth floating around.

That is very good news for the bottom of the defensive lineup, but more encouraging, is that the top 4 is now McDonagh, Shattenkirk, Skjei, Smith, and (pending AV pulling an AV,) and Staal nor Girardi nor Klein are top 4 defenders on this team.

I have a lot of appreciation and respect for those three guys and what they've given to the team, but they're all clearly past their prime and I'm glad they have been able to move on from two of them at least.

Gropp was not a huge disappointment you moron. He played with minor league rejects. The only one who played with real NHL forwards was Chytil. Of course he looked better.

You didn't make this point for Nieves the other night though did you? Sorry but you'll be wrong again. It's getting too time consuming to point out all your mistakes. I guess we should just wait until you're right for once and say it. If that ever happens of course.
