I'm sure we all have high hopes for these guys. I wish they all would make it. I'm glad I was wrong about Miller. I thought he was going to turn into Dale Weise. I wish Dump was right about these guys. Not because I want him to be right, because I want the Rangers to be better. He just seems to find one trait about each guy that he loves or hates and sticks with it no matter what. He especially loves guys that can shoot. He thinks no matter how terrible they are at everything else they will make it because of their shot.

His Ryan Graves hype increased exponentially when Graves won the AHL all star game hardest shot competition. If you're bored go back and look at the list of guys who have won the AHL hardest shot competition and see if there's any NHLers on there. Hell, see if there's any names you recognize even.

Graves is good, though.... he hasn't been as flashy as a Pionk or DeAngelo because those guys are offensive D-men

But both Graves and the Russian kid play and played a bigger body game... stay at home... harder hits. Heavier shots.

I can absolutely see Graves taking Staal's spot and role as 3rd pair stay at home defenseman... especially if two offensive guys like Shattenkirk and Pionk and or DeAngelo are inserted...

Need guys who can play strong D, too

There's been nothing to show me in these past few games that says that Graves, Bereglazov or Staal, are any better in our own zone than Shattenkirk, Pionk, or to a lesser degree, DeAngelo. Just because you're good at offense does not mean you're bad at defense, and in all fairness, the opposite is true too. We want the 6-7 best defensemen out there who can control the play the best.

Unfortunately Sather's ridiculous contract wit Staal will continue to haunt the team.If he could at minimum be sent to the minors, the bottom 3 defensemen could be D'angelo,Graves, and Pionk, with Holden being moved for a 4th round pick.Team would be much better off that way.

Graves and Bereglazov's size and strength is noticeably better than Pionk or DeAngelo. They were battling in the corners more effectively, I thought.

I think Pionk makes this team as the 6th... my point is that Graves and Bereglazov both seem sound enough to take Staal's spot... maybe not out of camp, but by the trade deadline or by next year

There are battles on defense for spots, which is good from a organizational point. The Russian got my attention last night, and will have a lot more focus next game. He has some size and threw some hits, hopefully someone can convince double mint you need some diversity on defense.. Right now I've liked Pionk, DeAngelo, Beryzgalov, Graves, and even Kampfer. Staals issue is $$, not his play so far.. Its going to come down to the last couple of games before the Rangers decide. Anything these players have done up til now has just earned them more games. Any bobble from here on in will probably be the difference.
