Ok, game 1 of 82, let's relax. Their goalie was the diff.

Lose first game Chytil’s confidence shot. Looked much like the second half team of last season. Fire A.V.

Forced Varlomov to stand on his head. Hit 2 or 3 posts.... Buchnevich and Nash were fantastic.... Chytil looked like a rookie....

But Mika Zibanejad sure looked like a #1 center to me.... He almsot carried the team on his back.

Special teams was good.

Avalanche had a couple wide open nets to shoot in to for the first two goals, and a crazy screen in front

Chytil has played less than 6 minutes so far

Very disappointing...why keep him up here then?

Because we have a coach who hasn't got a clue.

I don't understand, we won 64% of the faceoffs and out-hit the other team, but still lost?

So Rangers (yet again) give up goals where (a) opposing players allowed to camp in front and knock in loose pucks uncontested, (b) opposing player more than enough time to wind up and take a slapper (again uncontested) and (c) opposing players -- both forwards AND d-men -- allowed to skate into zone with no resistance (where the hell were the forwards) allowing opposing player to wind up and fire at will.

AV probably told the truth for once in his miserable existence as Rangers coach when, during preseason, he stated defensive system would remain unchanged.

Now the kid goes into the next game assuming one bobble or a close game and I’m on the pine, excellent confidence building coach. You have 8 games left to stick a fork in him.
Getting back to Vesey fourth lining while Desharnais floats around on the third line is a joke. If Chytil struggles it should be Miller taking his place and Vesey sliding up with Hayes and Grabner a unit that had some moments last season.

Agreed. On the Avs side of things, they looked okay except for penalty-man Nieto and rookie D Andrei Mironov who was absolutely lost the entire game. If not for Varly he would've been a -4 or worse.

Shattenkirk had a great view of Duchanes goal.... and so be the narrative of this season . One game.... yes, but defensive defiencies prevalent from the forwards on back to the D corp.....

It's not much against him, and the penalty he was called for wasn't much, but I just don't think he is ready to play important NHL minutes. Chytl is not ready, he is not sure what he should be doing. The wings can only cover up so much.

Maybe more than 3 or 4 shifts to evaluate? AV basically put him in the doghouse a few minutes into his career. 7 minutes of ice time - really?

He played in the West so we have not seen him too much, but this is what I have heard, defensively is his weakness, not exactly Scott Stevens.

Only one game but do not think he can continue between Zucc and Nash. Understand that it is a good spot form him between two vets however with Chytil not getting time two top forwards were shuffled around. Zucc and Nash are your top forwards and need a consistent center. Cyhtil needs to play and 7 min, special teams aside, is not enough ice to be between Zucc and Nash.

I don't think he was detrimental to the team, though....

He just didn't stand out. I don't think it's fair to judge him on one game.

If he doesn't do better next game, and Fast returns next week.... yeah he may be cut... which is fine...

Kreider Zibanejad Buchnevich
Nash Miller Zuccarello
Grabner Hayes Vesey
Carey Deshernais Fast

Is still good with me.

Exactly. If they played the game 5 on 5 instead of 4 on 3 maybe Chytil would have been able to get comfortable out there.... instead he sat virtually the entire 2nd period.... never able to get his legs going.

He looked ok in the 3rd, I thought. But by then we were down by a goal, trying to play the vets to tie it up.

Why the F on Earth do you keep him on the opening night roster...make him and his family excited only to pass judgement on him not being ready by the 10 minute mark of the 1st period? You might lose this kid mentally if you dick him around....and somebody slap AV....If this was MSL or Benoit Pouliot as rookies they wouldnt of even sat the pine

We didn't lose last night because of Chtyl's ice time....

We lost because pucks that should have went in the net, didn't.

The Rangers dominated play for long stretches... out shot them 41-28 and had 3 times as many scoring chances....

If Zibanejad gets the hat trick he deserved, everyone would be saying what a great game

Instead it's fire AV, and ship out Chytil

It was so obvious on tv that Chytl is not ready- it must be 10 times more obvious live and in practice. Look at the first Av goal - he has no idea what he should be doing. He needs to play real minutes every night and there is no place on the Rangers for a guy to learn on the job, especially a guy who has top 6 potential.

Well if double mint thinks the Rangers are better with Desharnais in the top nine instead of Vesey therein lies the problem. Desharnais didn’t do much of anything yet bozo saw fit to sit Chytil who granted wasn’t getting much done but wasn’t the problem by any means. You have to give kids a little more rein and expect a mistake or two and live with it. Your part of the number runners that saw fit to keep him on the team.

Desharnais had 2 high quality chances that I remember and set up somebody for another chance that Varlmalov made a great save. Chytl is getting a reminder that he has tons of work to do if he wants to play in the NHL. If this ruins his confidence then he can stay in the Czech Extraliga or head over to the KHL. He is lucky they even put him on the ice.

Maybe one day our dumbass coach will realize that speed on defense doesn't win cups. It's actually having defenseman that understand the concept of how to clear the crease and where they should be standing.

Desharnais is a plug with zero upside, wow he had a chance and set up another. Maybe Gorton better get him signed long term. The Rangers kept Chytil on the team for a reason. They all sat in a little room and had a discussion and decided to keep him. Its how its done. Only a idiot wouldn't know part of the discussion revolved around some growing pains. It is important to build up his confidence at this stage, he's never played in the league, you obviously do not understand the concept of building confidence, he's 18 and the decision was to give him a chance not sit him on the bench. Chytil did nothing wrong last night, did he have a bit of the deer in the headlights look a lot of first gamers do? Yes. But only a fool passes judgement after 7 minutes.

Maybe more than 3 or 4 shifts to evaluate? AV basically put him in the doghouse a few minutes into his career. 7 minutes of ice time - really?

The second period was basically all special teams and Chytil is not on any of the special teams units. He played more in the third.

What exactly did you see in a 1:54 span?

He actually played about 50 seconds more in the 2nd than he did in the 3rd

Well if double mint thinks the Rangers are better with Desharnais in the top nine instead of Vesey therein lies the problem. Desharnais didn’t do much of anything yet bozo saw fit to sit Chytil who granted wasn’t getting much done but wasn’t the problem by any means. You have to give kids a little more rein and expect a mistake or two and live with it. Your part of the number runners that saw fit to keep him on the team.

I find it funny that everyone was saying during preseason that he was more than ready.....now that AV is being AV, he's suddenly useless....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
