It was a had to trade for Gorton. I don't think anyone wanted to see Stepan resigned for $7 mill plus. You can see TD's talent, will it translate into something? You never know. And we won't find out with him watching Kampfer and Holden from the stands. Same as Andersson obvious upside, maybe had personal expectations to make the Rangers, felt a little pressure in camp and didn't perform up to the level that was probably expected. He also has boatloads of talent, its not like teams were lining up to get Stepan.

No one said they were immune from anything. No one said they are always right. In this case I believe they are right you don’t. They feel they have no viable option ready so they brought in Cracknell to do what Nieves should be able to do, and for whatever reasoning they have didn’t want him to. Maybe you have other reasons why they didn’t bring up Nieves. But that can change on a dime. Cracknell is a AHLer with basically one year of limited NHL success, as I mentioned a couple of times like others he can be replaced very easily.

That's not an argument you can make selectively though. You can't say (just becasue you agree with this decision) that "they are better hockey minds and know better than you" and then next week when they scratch Zuccarello, that they are not immune to criticism. You live or die by that argument.

If you think Cracknell is a good move then fine - I am perfectly willing to entertain that idea - but support it with something better than "AV is smarter than you". Show me how he was underutilized by the coaching staff in Dallas, or find some statistics that prove he was dragged down by his linemates, or point to a bad year due to injury and guess that he might bounce back (none of those is true of course, I have looked.)

Resigned? He had another 4 years on the contract....it was the no trade clause that hastened his exit.

The fact he scored 10 goals and 6 or 7 assists last season plus me watching him a few times last year during Dallas games is why I like the decision. He’s a proven Fourth liner, obviously has Ruff’s input on his addition. If he equals his Dallas contribution this year it’s a win for the Rangers.
I think any NHL team would rather bring up one of their own over bringing in a marginal player like Cracknell. Nieves for one has never excelled in Hartford to justify a promotion, it has always been he’s highest on the food chain, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready for NHL employment.
The Rangers don’t have a forward in Hartford that’s excelled and earned a call up. I am encouraged by Tambellini, Lettieri and even Nieves start in Hartford this season, but they need to play so well they force the Rangers to do something. Like bring one of them up to replace Cracknell or Carey for that matter.

Cracknell has averaged 20 NHL games a year in his 7 years of league play. He's more an AHLer than an NHLer. I think expecting him to approach anything near 10 goals or 16 points for a 32 year old is incredibly optimistic. If he is truly a better option than one of the kids, then we have been grossly overestimating their talent levels. And I'm one of the ones who recognizes that our prospect depth is among the weakest in the league already.

Having said that Cracknell is a good "energy guy" if you're into that sort of thing, and I don't think anyone thinks the Rangers couldn't use that at this point.

It’s not overly optimistic to expect it from a guy who's done it, expecting equal or better from guys that can't even get a toehold in the league, to me that is incredibly optimistic.

They can't get a toehold because management signs 32 year old career AHL players.

Also understand that by playing a kid you are in esting in their experience for the future. By giving ice time to a replacement level journeyman you are at best looking for a short term fix. I haven't seen anything out of Cracknell, Carey that a kid wouldn't be able to provide. But if you never give the kids a chance of course they'll never prove their worth.

If they could play they’d be here. They are not even good in Hartford, when they prove their worth at that level they get a chance.. Don’t you get that.??

He did it once. We call that a fluke. Did you expect Brian Boyle to score 20 every season because he did it once even though his entire career said no way? It's a joke that he is here.

Cracknell did it, plus played a gritty game. As I said, I would expect he would do it again, before players that haven’t proven they can even play well in the AHL. That’s the discussion.
Why they wasted their time bringing him in if he’s not going to play is a double mint mystery.
Or it proves the Rangers think there isn’t one forward in Hartford that is ready for the fourth line in the NHL.

Three more points last night Chytil now has 8 points in 6 games. Which to me is somewhat surprising, and encouraging. Ideally he would be there all year and a possible playoff callup. He would come to next years camp with a couple steps up on Andersson with his North American hockey indoctrination all done. Well done Chytil meister, great great start.

Will be called up again this season.

Kid has 3 goals and 6 assists in 9 games which is tied for team lead in points and assists in 4 fewer games than the players he's tied with.... Keep Boo on the 4th line, scratch Deshernais, and call up Chytil to take his place.

If he continues at this pace (admittedly not likely) he will force his way into a callup, either as a mid-season injury call-up, or as a late season reinforcement for a potential playoff push.

If he isn't traded with a second round pick for Cam Atkinson at the deadline, that is.

But he hasn't yet, right? So why a new thread on this?

Thanks!

The kid deserves his own thread, that's why.

I don't expect for him to get the call up any time soon, so I plan on keeping an eye on him and updating.

That WAS a typo.... 9pts in... 7 games now, not 9.

Management likes to do things in round numbers.... I'm sure once he reaches the 10 game mark in the AHL they'll reevaluate.

I doubt he plays enough NHL this year for it to count as a full rookie season, but he'll be back up

Chytil pops a couple more 11 points in 9 games. I am pleasantly suprised by his output, and look forward to seeing how he’s doing come Christmas. Lettieri with 13 points, 8 goals in 17 games. If chewy ever decides to throw Miller at center to replace sneezy, Lettieri could replace Miller on the wing. If Lettieri keeps coming on that might not be to far away.

Amen Brother!
Thought Lettieri had a very good pre-season on some very dysfunctional squads. Was trounced here for knowing nothing regarding hockey and that is fine however the kid seems to consistently bring energy. Energy not a consistent on the big club. Seems to actually want to retrieve the puck and has some skills. We've not seen Lettieri in-season against NHL squads but would love to see it! Desharnais can take is face-off % to Calagry.

We know what JT brings on the wing let's see about center. Give the kid an extended look.
