I am with you here rob. I guess I am missing why that was a bad thing or a bad way to handle it. Like I mentioned, I don't think they had to do it, but the fact they did is really no big deal either way. Certainly not something I would be bothered by.

Pretty poor public relations I'd say. Telling the fans, particularly the paying customer, and the team that we are giving up on the season while still in contention for a play-off spot. Aside from a permanent reduction in ticket prices, how about free food and drinks at the concession stands.

So, you're AOK with management telling the world that they have given up on the season?

As opposed to teams trading a bunch of guys at the deadline and then handing you a line that they are still trying to compete. Yes.

As soon as they started trading people we would have known they we're giving up. At least they didn't treat us like morons.

Where in the letter did it say they were giving up? They said that there may be some players moved that we've grown attached to, amd that they are focused on building a Cup contender.

Sather even said in an interview that there was still a chance for them to make the playoffs at the time. But they were going to do what was best foe the team, and they did.

Yep! I want Buchnevich with Chytil, but this should do. Roll 3 lines, and give these kids a nice chance.

I am 100% fine with how it played out. Why half ass it and go down the middle. We were not good enough to make any really run this season, so let's be real and honest about it and try and reboot and become a team that can make a long run again. And if Sather/Gorton want to tell the fans they have a plan and ask for patience I am good with that for sure.

Yes absolutely. They weren't really in contention for a playoff spot, that's the illusion of the loser point and NHL parity making it appear so.

Prior to The Letter the Rangers were 6-12-2 in their past 20. Since then they're 9-13-4, and still well out of a playoff spot. You're saying that if they hadn't waved the white flag and sold everyone off, that a 6-12-2 team would actually do better than 9-13-4 down the stretch and squeak into the playoffs? They're currently 17 points out of a spot, so that means they would have to have gone... something like 18-5-4 since the Feb 8 letter. I honestly can't believe that anyone (including AV) actually thought they were in playoff contention at any point after November.

The Rangers handled it the right way. They had no chance with the moron behind the bench, to make the playoffs let alone win a game. Hopefully tonight is the second last time he stands behind the bench. He would be well advised to leave no matter what, there will be more than a couple openings elsewhere and a sucker is born every minute. Hopefully he stays in the east so Future Rangers teams can exploit him coaching the opposition more often, than if he was out west.

I fully agree. And I applaud management for looking at this team for what it was and making the decision they did., In the past, they would have attempted the "go for it" mode and started trading youngsters/picks for that "special" player who they felt would put them over the top -- most times having the decision (and the teams) crash and burn after one or two rounds.

This is part of chewys self describing eulogy. (hopefully)

That brings me to NY and when we got here, you coach what you have. What we had here was a veteran group, Rick Nash, Brad Richards, Ryan Callahan became Marty St. Louis, Dan Girardi, Marc Staal, we had some good veteran players and we put a system in place and culture that maximized them. To them, through the first and second-year, Ryan McDonagh and Derek Stepan were added, good young players, we had a fair amount of success. We weren't able to get it done but we had a fair amount of success. At the end of the day a coach coaches what is in front of you and that is what we have tried to do and that is what we will continue to try to do."
Asked if he felt he was going to return as head coach, Vigneault said "yes, yes without a doubt" and said that his staff, with their experience, are the right people for the job. (Cyrgalis)

I can’t believe these brain dead reporters don’t challenge him on most of what he said. Girardi and Staal were established before he got here. Chewy didn’t turn nobody into them.
More laughable is through his first and second year McDonagh and Stepan were added but they were also here before his first and second year here. Again not challenged. So here you got a coach blowing his horn and is confused to say the least. . Which begs the question is he just stupid or a liar when he’s trying to pad his resume.

More of his delusional BS.

“””
I've gone through every facet, whether it be a young team, an old team, once we know the team, every year is the same thing," Vigneault said. "Once we know the team we try and put in a system, it maximizes their talent and their potential and try and mask and work on the areas that we need improvement."””””

Would like to hear what he changed since he got here. Teams doing the same crap that didn’t work when he put in his system..
