With Zib ready to come back, Mr Coach of the year has put Day Har No Way on the 4th line, and has Nieves skating as an extra.

4th line has been good for us the last couple of weeks. AV refusing again to stay with the younger guys, and keep the vets who really add no value. What is 51 going to do on the 4th line that Nieves can't??

I would have kept them both and scratched Carey.

Deshernais Nieves Vesey

As the 4th line.

Either way right now our 4th line isn't in a traditional defensive role anyway...

That goes to
Grabner Hayes Fast

Vesey Deshernais and whoever are going to be expected to produce offense.

And really he should do well now that he's out of the top 6 matched up against top D pairs.... cause.... if you think The Rangers D is bad.... look around the league... not a lot better

the 4th line isn't a defensive line....hasn't been in some time.....its an energy line. Hard on the forecheck, muck in the corners, grinding style. Do you get that from Desharnais? I'm not a fan of Carey either, but he fits that style of play more than Desharnais.

Think Boo has done enough to stay in the lineup. May have been given a bit too much but he earned some role and responsibility expansion . Thought he did some PK ....
Maybe Deshernais is just a look see for others.
Would really like to see a Forward picked up for lower 6 that can bring a consistent hard game. Hard check in all zones and basic pain in the ass. Also at some point Vinny L get a look but Boo has earned the 4C spot.

I think Nieves is a better choice than Desharnais.

I hate to think what these young guys might think about playing their role well, only for AV to sit them in favor of someone who isn't a better option. It has to be frustrating, and it stunts their growth, and experience.

Awesome AV

I don't think there is that much difference, but in cases where there isn't a difference I think tie should go to the kid because you're investing in his future rather than giving ice time to a journeyman.

Desharnais has had some good games starting off on a new line. Then he seems to fade to becoming very much a non factor. In fairness comparing Desharnais to Nieves who has been adequate and not much more with very little offense, is hard because they play a different game. You can only compare effectiveness at their individual games. Desharnais and Nieves both needed a wakeup call. Choosing between those two your looking for who will make the most meaningful contribution, playing their individual style. They are definitely a apple and a orange in all skills and assets. At the present time the success of the fourth line is more on how Vesey and Carey's play. If I was Desharnais or Nieves I'd be using game time to put a exclamation point on why I should be in the lineup.

On another not, Our Clown Prince had something interesting to say about Holden:

"Nick Holden was on the top pair with Ryan McDonagh for the ninth straight game since McDonagh returned Dec. 1 from his four-game absence because of an abdominal strain. Holden played 23:06 and scored his second goal of the season while also turning the puck over with regularity.

“Nick is safe and dependable,” Vigneault said before the game. “He’s got good positioning. He can support Mac. Mac obviously is a powerful skater that likes to jump up in the attack. So when you have a trusty partner that you know is going to be in there right spot, the right position, makes it that you can be a little bit more effective offensively.”"

Seriously?

You guys rip Holden, because you’re uber-centric focused on the Rangers..... but if you watch the rest of the league, there are plenty of defenseman that make the same mistakes and are paid considerably more, without any offensive upside. Does he belong on the top pair ? Probably not .... but there’s very few teams, if any, that have 6 defenseman playing at a super high level, mistake free. This is why quality defenseman are in such high demand! Nobody blasts Zucchini when he passes pucks up the middle for ridiculous chances against, everyone should chill on Holden

He’s getting his lines ready for the next game, or do you not pay attention to his practice combinations that start games. . Only a idiot thinks you can find chemistry in a practice. Maybe try watching a game or two or maybe check the Rangers stats and explain how breaking up a fourth line that may have been the Rangers best the last two games is not stupid. Not just take a guy off but blow it up. It’s gone. And then top it by putting his second leading scorer on a 8 to 9 minute a game line. Pretty stupid. Sheer genius.

Nobody is reaching, he is a idiot for breaking up Carey, Desharnais and Vesey and a bigger idiot for putting Miller on the fourth line. No need to put his second best scorer on the fourth line and break up the obvious Carey, Vesey chemistry with Desharnais. But according to you he’s looking for chemistry while they fly through the horseshoe drill in practice. I don’t know where you been but his practice lines are his next game lines, and have been since day one. Unless there is a morning skate tomorrow those are your lines.

They had a fourth line that was scoring. I have no idea nor most likely does anyone else understand how switching Desharnais and Miller as you say fills the hole created by the loss of Fast. Your opinion about chewy not breaking up Desharnais and Carey doesn’t change what went on in practice and what will go on tomorrow. His M/O says the lines tomorrow will be the same as today’s practice.

I don't know how it takes a National hockey League coach this long to come up with this gem. Chewy is saying Shattenkirk is not going back for the puck hard enough on puck retrievals. In other words he's nicely calling him lazy. Nice conclusion after a training camp and 34 games. Coaches are supposed to pickup on this stuff and deal with it immediately, not observe it for 1/3rd of the season, and now decide it needs to be dealt with. . To be fair Shattenkirk gives the puck up whether he is pressured or not. And of course Zipay doesn't ask the obvious "why did you wait so long to deal with this"? Terrible signing and Chewy continues to get the free pass.

Kevin Shattenkirk needs to play with a little more urgency, Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said.

The defenseman hadn’t scored in 19 games, and Vigneault said that although there was an adjustment period for the free-agent acquisition, he’s got to pick it up.

“I do think Shatty has got more in him than what we’re seeing now,” Vigneault said Saturday. “I feel he can skate better, going back for pucks a little bit quicker and finding the available outlet. If we get that part of his game a little more consistent, I think everything else will be fine. He’s been better as far as closing the gap and making the right reads defensively, but I do think offensively there’s more there. His confidence might not be at his highest point. He’ll be the first one to tell you he’s not making those usual passes He’s been working hard, he’s got the right attitude and he’s only going to get better.”""""""
