All-Star Posts: 3039 ![]() Location: USA | Rranger - 2017-10-30 4:45 PM Mandar - 2017-10-30 3:01 PM Sather, Schoenfeld, Risebrough are all in Ottawa tonight for the Ottawa/Montreal game tonight. Rumors on fire now.... Any details? I found one blurb about it mentioning Pacioretty’s name. And asking the interesting question why isn’t Gorton there. 6:17PM: Rangers President Glen Sather, SVP & assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld, Gilles Leger and Doug Risebrough are all on the scouting list for tonight's Habs/Sens game in Ottawa. (Bruce Garrioch) Leger is in his 18th season with the Rangers as a pro scout and Risebrough is in his 9th season as a "hockey consultant" for the Rangers. Risebrough, according to the Rangers media guide, "works closely with Jeff Gorton on player transactions and personnel decisions. Sather and Schoenfeld were reportedly at the morning skate for Montreal this morning. (Lariviere) Adam Rotter: This is a hard thing to get a grasp on because there are so many possible reasons why the Rangers could have Glen Sather and Jim Schoenfeld in Ottawa tonight. Leger is a scout and Risebrough is someone that the Rangers will dispatch to scout as well, so that is normal, but having the President and SVP at the game is certainly newsworthy. Maybe the Rangers are in on something with one of the two teams, maybe this is all for show and a way to show the rest of the league that the Rangers are ready to make moves or as a way to show the current players that if they don't shape out they will be shipped out. My speculation would be that Leger and Risebrough are there to scout and that Sather and Schoenfeld are there for show. They know that their presence will make news and that is the purpose, the question would be why are they trying to make news? Is it a message that says the Rangers are open, is it a message that says to the players that the coach isn't going anywhere, but they might or is it something entirely different? You can go crazy with speculation about why they are there and what their motivation is but at this point I think we just need to wait and see how things develop over the next few days with the Rangers.

Cant imagine them trading Smith.....wouldn't be a good thing for future free agents looking to come here, and a different coach with a different defensive scheme will probably bring a higher level of play from all the defense.

All-Star Posts: 3039 ![]() Location: USA | This from Brooks today...first Ive heard Shaw's name The Rangers dispatched president Glen Sather, assistant general manager Jim Schoenfeld and pro scout Gilles Leger to Ottawa on Monday to check out the Canadiens-Senators match. Alex Galchenyuk, Montreal’s 23-year-old natural center with top-six potential who was on the fourth line against the Senators just as he was against the Rangers on Saturday, could have been a person of interest to the front-office triumvirate. But the Blueshirts also like Montreal’s Andrew Shaw, the abrasive 26-year-old forward who can play both center and wing and who plays an edgy, abrasive game unlike anyone currently on the New York roster. and this the other day which I find classic There is considerable chatter circulating within the industry that Tuesday night’s match at the Garden against Vegas could determine the fate of coach Alain Vigneault, whose Rangers slipped to 3-7-2 with Saturday night’s 5-4 defeat in Montreal that featured another distressing, no-show first period. That is probably overstating it and more a case of deductive reasoning than a reflection of inside knowledge. Still, if Vigneault is being evaluated under this type of microscope, then the conclusion that a change is necessary behind the bench has essentially already been made, whether the deciders do or do not know it and/or do or do not want to admit it. so if the hierarchy in the form of MSG chairman Jim Dolan, president Glen Sather and Gorton believe that dramatic change is necessary, that change likely will come behind the bench. The old coach Tom McVie was once talking about being fired in Washington. “We’re making a change in your department,” he was told. Then after a moment it occurred to him. “I was the only person in my department,” he said. Edited by RANGERNUT 2017-10-31 2:58 PM

All-Star Posts: 3195 ![]() Location: Brisbane, Australia | I am curious.... is anyone else noticing that the two new guys and the kid (Smith,Shattenkirk and Skeji ) are hardly ever playing D and are often out of position... I watch McDonaugh trying to do too much but no matter who he is paired with he seems to be trying to be offensive and Defensive.. and doing neither... I was not a fan of signing Shattenkirk .. and I know his offense is needed but he needs to start playing D.. and Skeji is much the same.. not sure why the coach would pair them up like he did early in the season. I know you need offensive D.. but you need a stay at home guy beside him.. think Leetch and Beukaboom.

All-Star Posts: 3039 ![]() Location: USA | What people are saying about the Rangers and having reps in Ottawa Oct 31 | 8:52AM 8:52AM: Pierre McGuire was on TSN1200 this morning and said the following about the Rangers: • Are the Rangers close to something with Ottawa or Montreal, "I would imagine but I don't know that for sure. •A lot of people were speculating that Montreal was trying to make a deal, Rangers need another offensive center ice man, Montreal might have one. I don't know but we will see. I don't like throwing names out there, it could be a lot of different things but to have those three major decision makers from the Rangers there, wouldn't surprise me if something went on." •Would Kreider for Galchenyuk make sense, "there is fit, one thing for Kreider, there is not a whole lot of love there so it would be interesting to see how that turned out. That would be interesting. It would make sense but I don't know, I never brought those names up, just so we are clear." •"Glen is a very powerful man in the NHL, he doesn't just pop into games. The fact that he would be there, I find interesting." •"that is a big story, the fact that they had three big time decision makers there."

![]() Publisher Posts: 68225 ![]() Location: USA | Rumors of Galchenyuk scare me....with all Kreider's inconsistency, he provides a net front presence, size and physicality that this team doesn't have a lot of. Galchenyuk is more a peripheral player. On the defense I think you can point to the inability to find someone who can play with McDonagh as the core issue. Shattenkirk is not skillful enough defensively, Smith is limited and Staal is on decline...that means the whole defensive group is a mess because we don't have a top pair right handed d-man

All-Star Posts: 3039 ![]() Location: USA | this from brooks late last night. Larry Brooks October 31, 2017 | 11:39pm The hockey world knows that president Glen Sather, assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld, advisor Doug Risebrough and pro scout Gilles Leger were in Ottawa for Monday’s Canadiens-Senators match. The execs could not have been more conspicuous. The sensible takeaway was that the Rangers were doing due diligence on Alex Galchenyuk, the 23-year-old with first-line center skill/potential who has been toiling on the wing in a bottom-six role. The Blueshirts are also known to like wild-card forward Andrew Shaw. Sources have told The Post that Chris Kreider is not on the table and neither is J.T. Miller. Does that mean Mats Zuccarello would have to go? Or would the Canadiens insist on Brady Skjei as the central piece of the return for Galchenyuk? By the way, the narrative from Montreal that the Rangers would do anything they can to get Max Pacioretty? Why, exactly, when the winger did next to nothing while creating no impact in last year’s six-game first round?
