It may look as though Pavelec days are numbered. Not really sure if this is an upgrade.

I heard his name before and I am not sure if he is an upgrade over current backup goalie but I am sure I would call him up to backup Henke.Thats how little conference I have in our present backup goaltender. He was poor when he started with Trashers(not 100% sure if that was the team he started his career goalie)

Without looking it up I'm sure he did. And he's pretty much been the worst starting goalie in the league from the moment he got the gig.

Pavlec is not playing because the staff and Allaire like him. I agree with Blue as to whether he is a upgrade, but if The Rangers sign him he’s got to play somewhere so unless A Hartford goalie is a possible replacement for Pavlec, or more probable one Hartford goalie is going to their ECHL team and the Rangers will check him out in Hartford.

It’s amazing that we have like 15 goalies in our system ,including a high pick in Halverson, and yet....no backup

Yet an expansion team, can go 5 deep, and be atop the Western conference contenders

I’m confused why we need to be different than every other team..... look at Pittsburgh and their goalie situation, yet we feel the need to sign a goalie who was relegated to the A by the Winnipeg Jets? Idk.... it’s incredibly confusing .... Bring up Georgiev, this Slovak kid or Halverson, wave Pavelic or if possible Trade him (doubtful).... this management is asleep at the wheel. It’s hindsight, but if they hadn’t signed Smith and gone with a prospect backup, you could have kept Stepan and STILL signed Shattenkirk.

All the Rangers care about is the 18,000 people that come to the games every night and spend money

Yeah I hate having depth and assets! Management sucks! Fire/trade everybody! Let's get bent about everything this team does!

Depth and assets? So you mean the kid in Sweden and the defenseman in Russia, the college FA in Hartford, or the Chytl concussed in Hartford..... maybe the repressed Graves in Hartford or the goalies toiling in the ECHL....,
The assets for Staal last year, maybe you mean that , or the healthy Hartford scratch ADglo?

The Rangers are in better shape asset wise since Gorton has taken over. Andersson and Chytil are bona fide first round prospects, and Chytil possibly a draft day gamble with serious payoff possibilities. Expecting either to make the NHL this season was wishful thinking. Lettieri was a pleasant training camp surprise. Pionk and Graves are also realistic possibilities.
Deangelo remains a very good prospect at 22. Defensemen traditionally take longer to figure it out. Based on his Hartford debut he's got some maturity issues, and acceptance of his situation to deal with, including how to get to and stick in the NHL. And it won't be at forward. Every time a young offensive Dman struggles on his way to the NHL the call goes out to play him at forward. Its not that easy, look at how few have done it. I give him this season to figure it out before I'd start worrying. I'm not so sure he shouldn't be on the Rangers, but he seems to have fallen into chewys unfavoured player list. Game after game Holden and Kampfer have issues and provide no special teams help. Would DeAngelo really be less of a player than them? The biggest issue I see with DeAngelo is he's behind Shattenkirk, Skjei and McDonagh on the power play depth chart. If I was to do anything with him it would be to package him for a dman with a conflicting skillset, hits, defensive, nasty, right shot, size, "gasp" fights. But that's just me.

Rangers have goalie Marek Mazanec on waivers, likely to go to Hartford

12:07PM

12:59PM: John Shannon says that it's a one-year deal with the Rangers.

12:07PM: According to Elliotte Friedman, the Rangers have placed Marek Mazanec on waivers with the intention of signing him and likely assigning him to Hartford.

Mazanec is already listed as part of the Rangers organization on NHL.com.

This season in the KHL, Mazanec is 4-15-2 for Slovan, with a GAA of 3.40 and save percentage of 89.9%.

Mazanec parted ways with Slovan last week and was believed to have an out clause in his contract in the KHL that would allow him to return to North America. (Hokej.cz)

He has 31 career games in the NHL, 25 starts, and is 8-13-4 with a save percentage of .895 & GAA of .297 with Nashville.

Mazanec, 26, is from the Czech Republic and a former 6th round pick in 2012 of Nashville.

In his AHL career, Mazanec is 82-60-17 with a .909% save percentage and 2.59 GAA.

Mazanec needs to clear waivers because he is a UFA and started the season playing in Europe. (CapFriendly)

Adam Rotter: I wonder how much this move has to do with Hartford's goaltending and how much it has to do with adding a veteran Czech player to be around Filip Chytil. It's probably a combination of both as the Rangers look to upgrade things in Hartford as well as add a mentor and someone that can speak the same language as Chytil. Mazanec also provides some depth for the Rangers in the event of an injury to Henrik Lundqvist and/or Ondrej Pavelec. He has some NHL experience and a number of seasons in the AHL as opposed to the Rangers needing to call up either of their current goalies in Hartford, both of which are in their first pro season in North America.

Chytil has a cervical sprain

Yeah I'm talking about him who will be in the NHL

Andersson will, too.... I don't think the fact that he didn't make the cut this year is a big deal. The 18 year old is doing really well in the SHL, and looked good in the preseason games he played.

I'm also talking about the best goalie in the KHL... yes.

Yeah, I'm talking about a kid about to blow evander kane's scoring record in juniors out of the water.

DeAngelo? Yeah at 22 he's not dead as a prospect... I wish he was better, but oh well....

It's not like Stepan and Raanta are tearing it up in Arizona......
