In typical AV fashion, the Rangers have collected regular season wins and points in the standings by beating the mediocre and slop of the NHL. However, as per usual against the top of their own division, they are 0 - 1 against NJD, NYI and Pitt, while losing 2 of 3 against CBJ.
1 - 5 against the top 4 in the Metro Division.

Next week features road games against Pitt and WSH with a home game against NJD. Should be interesting. How many games do the Rangers win next week?

If CBJ beats the devils twice.... possible.... Devils just lost to Arizona 5-0 yesterday....

And The Rangers beat Pitt and Wash.... maybe less likely, but also possible....

Then The Rangers and Devils will be tied in pts and gp with The Rangers having the tie breaker in Wins when they play each other Friday....

If NYR win 3 in a row, and CBJ helps to create that scenario, NY will finish the week in 2nd place in the division with 36 pts, 3 points behind Columbus

If I know that, they know that....

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!!!

Mediocre Carolina.......They are only 3 points with a game in hand behind our Mighty Rangers! If they're mediocre, what does that say about the good guys?

After the worst start to any season in my lifetime, you're darn right I'll be excited about the idea of eyeballing 1st in the Met by Christmas.

The Rangers dug themselves out of a serious hole... this is a big week

The Rangers will learn a lot about their team this week

12:27PM

The Rangers begin a two-game road trip tonight in Pittsburgh and play their next three games against teams ahead of them in the standings.

Kevin Shattenkirk told Larry Brooks that a lot more will be known about the Rangers and the rest of their division after these three games. (NY Post)

Henrik Lundqvist said that he thinks "we will find out something about our team this week" and that "no question" it will be a big test." (NY Post)

Heading into tonight's game the Rangers have 30 points in 26 games and sit 9th in the Eastern Conference.

The Penguins and Capitals both have 33 points in 28 and the Devils, Saturday's opponent, have 34 points in 26 games.

The Rangers currently have a 68.7% chance of making the playoffs, according to Sports Club Stats.

Adam Rotter: Like the Rangers, the Penguins and Capitals have been up and down this season with both teams, also like the Rangers, faring much better at home than on the road. The Rangers are 7-3 in their last 10 and had a terrific November when compared to how bad October was. We've seen this team play at both extremes, seen them come back against good teams, beat good teams but also turn the puck over like crazy and leave players wide open for quality scoring chances against. It's time for the Rangers to find their consistency as a team and get past being consistently inconsistent. If the Rangers can do that and show that they are more of the November team than the October team then when the Rangers take the ice at Citi Field to start 2018 they will likely be in a good position regarding the playoffs.

Can't win all three now with the loss tonight. If not for a fluky goal against Pitt, the "Lose all 3 , Fire AV" choice would be in the running still.

So either one win or the Meatloaf ballad.

Nothing was determined this week. Fluky goal and win in Pitt, disappointing loss in DC, and a dominating win against NJ.

They're close to being a conference contender, but flawed on defense and have no physical game in their own zone. But the talent up front is, as a group, among the best in the league. May be a work in progress, perhaps next season they solidify the defense.

If we had a coach with a defensive scheme that allowed the players to play to their strengths, there wouldn't be such a problem.
