Thank you, NY Rangers.

Took my 5 year old to his first game tonight. Lots of goals, a scrum/fight, and an entertaining game. He's hooked, a fan for life. We even caught a tee-shirt in the 3rd period. Great experience at the Garden. Good fans in our section as always, vocal but not vulgar. It was a little early to teach my 5 year old son the Potvin Sucks chant, but stuff happens.

The Devils are young, make mistakes and have no elite talent. But they play hard and fast. They'll be in the mix at the end and might make waves if they grab a goal scorer at the deadline.

The Rangers are so skilled up front as a team it's amazing to watch live. But they're suspect defensively. Sooooo many turnovers inside their own blueline because they try to make the nifty short tip pass instead of being hard on the puck and forcing it out to center ice. It's burned them many times this season, cost them chances and zone time tonight, and will kill them in the playoffs.

Give them that, they find ways to win, not a great team by any means, but finding ways...

I think reality is going to set in for The Devils.

They're still ahead in the standings, but The Rangers, Penguins, and Washington are all better teams... CBJ too

Can they still make the playoffs as the 5th best team in The Met? 6th if you throw in the Islanders?

The Rangers are 13-4 in their last 17 games. They are still out of the playoffs. They will not continue at their present winning pace for the rest of the season. They are undoubtedly in the mix, but they have a tough on the road, back half of the schedule and at chewy's present pace Lundqvist will need I.V's and banana's before every second half game. They have a lot of heavy lifting left to do.

That’s great! Glad they beat the Devils in your presence! Are you saddened by the building now compared to when real NYR fans filled the building?

Same seats. The people in and near that row were really cool to my son. Everyone loves to see a new Rangers fan being initiated.

It's the price of progress, sort of. There are many more kids at the games these days than I remember once upon a time. Which is a GOOD thing. The fans are less vulgar and the atmosphere is more kid/family friendly. I had no hesitation in taking my 5 year old last night. Back in the 80's I might've thought twice.

There are still lots of "real" fans in the building, they just aren't as intoxicated and rowdy as days gone by. I also think that the nature of this team is such that there are long stretches where there's nothing to get fired up about. The Rangers aren't physical and the fans always got buzzing when the Rangers were physical and threw good hits on a regular basis. Even rivalry games like last night have no "edge" to them where there's a constant buzz in the crowd because the teams are constantly hitting and in each other's face.

Yeah the physicality helps.

I'm pretty intoxicated and vulgar when I go to a hockey game, though.... I got yellow carded like it was a soccer game one time by a garden employee just a few years ago.... I'm pretty loud.... and intoxicated haha.... even if the beers are like $16 a piece!

Not sure what the hell you're talking about here. As I said, the family friendly atmosphere at MSG is an improvement over years past. The drunks and the vulgarity that you used to hear are essentially gone and that's a good thing. My 5 year old had a great time and I won't hesitate to take him again or perhaps one of my other kids.

The loudness of the crowd is lessened somewhat because the team is much more about passing and skating than hitting and getting in the other team's face. The fans appreciate the skill, but it doesn't get them loud and cheering as much. The pushing and the scrum with Shatt and Wood got everyone out of their seats and cheering.

I got in a chanting fued with The Devils mascot once

I was trying to get a Let's Go Rangers chant going, and then The Devil came and point at me with his drum stick before beating on his drum.... So, challenge accepted....

And when I say I got yellow carded at the garden I mean MSG staff handed me a warning card.... I was being too loud on The West balcony...............

Oh ****. You were serious about getting drunk and disorderly at the games! My bad, I thought you were being sarcastic. Sometimes that doesn't come across on a message board, especially when I'm reading it.

I'm loud at the games, but try to keep it clean. Any dummy can yell "**** you" or "You suck". It takes some wit and a sense of humor to yell at a ref, "How can you sleep with all these lights on!?"

I look forward to hearing that. I'll try to get to MSG again before the end of the season. I'll let you know. Don't be afraid of the buzz cut, come down and talk.
