Shattenkirk has been battling knee pain since Sept. Said he “didn’t want to disappoint a lot of people” so he played through it. Had multiple injections.

They signed him in July....he has had pain since Sept. Logic would assume he first injured it in training camp.

Maybe that explains all the standing around watching the play go by.

I'm assuming they are going to repair it which means no clue when he is coming back. Could be a few weeks, could take months. All depends on how it heals.

At least there's some kind of excuse.

He says this won't keep him out for the season. We'll get him and Kreider back for playoffs.

In the meantime, maybe this forces management to get a Mike Green or someone

He can't say that. That surgery still fails about 30 percent of the time, though that is heavily dependent on what part of the meniscus tore. A tear towards the middle they could end up immobilizing the knee for 4 months.

Right... he could be just saying that, or maybe he's talked to a doctor already and is optimistic for a reason....

What would be his excuse for bad play in Washington?

Have to make the playoffs before players can come back for the playoffs

Really, this team has no luck with injuries this year. This is the Rangers I know, anything that can go wrong will. This is the Rangers of the past, some one trips over the blue line & out 4-6.

A torn meniscus is not a big deal. Minor knee surgery. That being said, maybe we can see Graves now who actually plays defense but I guarantee the moron calls up Gilmour first or DeAngelo.

Why would they call up Cantenacci instead of Nieves???

This group has no rhyme or reason why they do what they do

hopefully it helps explain Shattenkirk's ineffective play. Yeah he has never been the top defender but he has been alarming bad! He used to be bad but could recover now not so much!!!
They called up TD to cover for Stall being down now they need another and hope it is Graves. Maybe he is not playing well in Hartford? Thinking Graves may be a guy that could be a steady defender and move the puck but if he is not playing well perhaps Pionk.

The surgery isn't a big deal, but the recovery can be. As usual you have no clue what you're talking about. He could be back in six weeks, or it could tear again after being immobilized for 4 months and require more surgery. When all they did was remove the torn piece it was a cake recovery and knee problems later in life.

Lias Andersson was assigned to Hartford.

Cantenacci won't play unless someone else gets injured.

I thought the article today hinting that his poor play was because of his knee was crap. His knee didn't have anything to do with his crappy position and moronic decision making. Or the fact that AV's system sucks ass.

you have a veteran player that tears something in their knee first week of training and not take care of it then and there ? that seems negligent .... have not even played a game yet .... why would you not just get the thing repaired. I get that it is not an ACL but why not get the player at %100 as early as possible. Seems to be a terrible personnel decision

Very good point. I've had three knee arthroscopic repairs two were minicus related. . My repairs were the basic vacuum and clean. You are back in action in a couple three weeks. And now I need a new knee, because parts of the meniscus is missing. . Shattenkirks sounds like a actual sew and fix repair, not just a cleanup, he will be laid up longer. To your point why start a season with a guy that needs a 8 week maximum recovery from a injury. And that's the high side, maybe he's back in a month. Should have dealt with it way back when. Now when you need him most he's getting something done that should have been dealt with earlier. Makes one wonder if the Rangers knowingly signed damaged goods.
