I like Macleod, but I woulda liked him much better about 5 years ago. Or even when Nashville first grabbed him from the Avs, when he could've been a big help to the Rangers in the playoffs.

Now? He'll get the occasional start when Gum-Gum feels the need for some toughness in the lineup, like tonight. He won't get more than 6 or 7 minutes of ice in any one game regardless. He'll be scratched at least as much as he's dressed under Gum-Gum.

Heaven forbid the Rangers EVER draft a young tough guy who plays his prime ass-kicking years with them, instead of grabbing an aging enforcer at the end of his career. The last guy I recall was Colton Orr. Before him was Darren Langdon and Tie Domi. Three homegrown tough players in about 25 years.

The one area will I think (hope) that Macleod will have some positive impact is leadership. The guy is a leader on the ice, on the bench, and in the room. He'll also be there to respond when opponents run at McDonagh, Nash, Zuc, and Buch, and then taunt the Rangers' bench as they skate past. IF he's dressed, that is.

It's never been about getting a tough guy or two...it's more about style of play. You could get the 1974 Flyers in here, and AV would want them to be a skating team.

He will never see a shift under AV....He is a 4th line tough guy

You must have forgotten Carcillo, Dorsett, Asham......all tough guys that played 4th line minutes.

Where do you get this stuff?

Asham played in 6 games for AV in AV'S first year then gone the next year

Dorsett played in 51 games for AV in AV's first year then gone the next year

Carrillo played in 31 games for AV the same year, then gone the next....

Safe to say, AV doesn't like tough guys!! Way to go Mikey!!!!

Sooooo....you are confirming that 4th line tough guys do get shifts for AV. I don't recall seeing any statement that asked how many of the same guys came back.

The comment was "he will never see a shift under AV". It is right above in this quote...maybe you need help reading it.

By your response, you effectively proved Mikey's statement wrong. Congrats.

Hahaha thanks for the congratulations.

Point is those players were here AV'S first year, he had to play them, its what he had....But, the following year all the players were gone!! Which shows AV doesn't like these type of players.

Thanks again

Great. ONE tough player, in how many seasons here?

Then why do they keep getting replaced when they leave?

Him and the handful of other players mentioned. He's had a few gritty players, the problem is that it's never at the same time. They're the odd ball

Glass... Asham.... Dorsett.... they were always the ONE guy on the team of St. Louis's, Zuccarello's, and Gaborik's

Cody McLeod, if introduced to the lineup, will be the one guy..... well.... Smith, DeAngelo, Miller, Kreider all have some toughness to their game, too... to be fair...

Haven't had one on this team this entire year....

McLeod hasn't played yet.....

Tanner Glass spent much more time in Hartford last year than with the Rangers. So, in effect you can say we've gone the last two seasons without a tough guy.

McLeod is only useful in one regard--hitting guys in the attacking zone on the forecheck. He (very) occasionally crashes the net and scores the odd goal, but that's about it.

He was never a great fighter. Decent middleweight guy who could hold his own but I don't recall a single time he absolutely obliterated a guy. But whatever, he fills the "goon who doesn't completely suck at playing" role.

Here's probably my favorite Cody McLeod moment. He and lovable rascal Stephane Veilleux, then of the Minnesota Wild, go at it while both are in the penalty box. Fast forward to around 2:35 or so for the real fun to begin.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the guy quite a bit, but at this point I just don't think he's NHL-caliber.

I don’t expect anything more than Mcleod filling a jersey depending on future moves. The fact he might play over a Nieves, is so typical Rangers. If they need a body after the trade deadline Nieves, Tambellini, and even Catenacci could have finished the season. I’d rather see Chytil and Andersson finish strong in Hartford.
If Mcleod lands a punch he will have exceeded my expectations. He is done.

The only thing shorter than his stay will be his shifts.

If he hits someone even accidentally he will be a fans favorite.

His best chance will be in the warmup when the opposition least expects it.

Remember the time that the Penguins traded a first round pick for Ryan Reaves so he would "deter" others from taking cheap shots on their stars, and then one day Corey Perry elbows Letang in the head, and Reaves, who was on the ice at the time, did nothing?

Someone explain this idea of "deterrence" to me again and tell me why we continually need these buffoons who can't play in order to "deter" stuff.

By the way last time I checked Ryan Reaves was healthy scratched, because he can't actually play hockey at this level.
