No, it’s about coaching, and the accomplishment of AV benching Miller.

Benching do work at times. But as a coach you lose credibility with your players when only some guys get benched for mistakes while others never do. Miller, Buch and Vesey get benched while Zuc and Holden never do for similar mistakes. AV sucks.

Oh, I am in no way advocating for AV...I absolutely agree that he should be gone.

However, as the above comment was specific to Miller....what AV does or doesn't do with any other player is irrelevant to whether the benching worked for Miller or not.

His decisions regarding other players is certainly a point worth discussing, but it has nothing to do with a JT Miller conversation regarding his play tonight.

Hayes sparks the team to a win. This is the Hayes the team needs, not Jenna Haze that shows up for about 1/2 the season. This is the Miller-time they need, not the Miller that shows up 1/2 the season. AV's job saved for a now. Grabner & Hank saving coach's job.

He's been benched many times before, and didn't come back with a 3 point night...I guess the benching didn't work in those cases????

You cannot say that the benching worked because he had 3 points..What if he had none?? Are you saying that the benching produced the 3 points? Or, that if he wasn't benched he wouldn't have scored 3 points??

If thats the case AV should bench him and everyone else every other night. We would lead the league in goals!!

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Miller you give there.

It appears to be a cause and effect thing....but there is certainly a possibility that he may have gotten those points if not benched. Or you can conclude that he was especially motivated to do better because of it. Some players respond well to getting benched, some sulk. Its a good thing that it seems to have worked....at least for one game.

Miller has always responded well to being benched or demoted.

I don't know that AV needed to bench him compared to anyone else, but his give away was pretty bad... it resulted directly to a goal, and so AV need to make an example for the team that those plays can't happen. Vesey sat too

I guess he could have benched a number of guys, but Miller was the guy, and it worked out.

Lundqvist still sits

Miller got publicly flamed for a couple turnovers. He shoved it up the coaches wazoo. Well done. I’m not inclined to think a NHL coach is stupid enough to be vindictive towards one player, but also don’t like chewys famous “some players have a longer leash than others” statement. When players see others getting preferential treatment, and by that I mean some players go unpunished for the same issue, we’ll then it probably is or will be a issue. It will be interesting to see going forward if players other than Miller, Vesey, and Buchnevich up front miss ice time for similar transgressions. And of course we all know Smitty is the only one that messes up on defense and gets sat.
So it will be fun watching Herb going forward now that he’s set a bar.
