Welp this team is officially a train wreck, it needs fixing, the ball is in Jeff Gordon’s court at this time. It’s on nobody else but Mr. Gorton to fix it or get out of the way so someone else can.

They get smoked in Nashville Saturday with a mail it in effort AV is gone by kickoff. This seems to be the point in every coaches evolution when every player leaves their game somewhere but on the ice. Makes it easy really everyone wants out. PERFECT!

Man, you guyz are sadomasochistics. I was out 3-0, got better things to do.

Is it me or I never heard of this goalie before.

All those Top 10 picks finally paying off for the Make Beliefs.

Let's get back talking about Phoebe Cates!

C'mon guys, I think we're being a little rough on our heroes in Blue...

They played very hard for the first 8 minutes or so.

turned off that sh$%%@show very early but read Buch was knocked out of the game by an elbow to the head. Did our newly acquired "enforcer" beat the daylights out say Austin Matthews? Down by 3 and stuck in quick sand so no problem with power plays....

Or course not.

For a team to play physically effectively, someone needs to get in the face of whoever does it, immediately. Whoever's on the ice. Don't even have to drop the gloves but you have to send the message that it isn't tolerated. Surprisingly Zucc is one of the only guys who does this consistently, and he's one of the smallest guys on the team. So lesson one, it's not about size.

Deterrence is a myth. I gave a Ryan Reaves example in another thread, and have plenty more also. Has Gudas been deterred into minding his manners? Has Brad Marchand had to pay the price, on-ice, ever? He's got more suspensions in the past 5 years than fights.

Guys like McLeod, (who is actually a worse hockey player than Tanner Glass), add absolutely nothing to the team. You want energy? You get a lot more of it by scoring a goal. "Energy" and "team guy" are coach and media buzzwords for "we have nothing particularly good to say about this hockey player." And they don't because these guys don't belong in the league.

I'm not saying they don't belong in the league because they're tough, or because they fight. In fact I welcome both of those qualities, when they belong to someone who can actually play hockey. These fringe guys who can only make the league by having more minutes in the box than on the ice - they're useless. Continuing to acquire them only hurts your team in the long run.

Whether it was AV driving this decision or Gorton alone, I have serious doubts about the ability of whoever made this decision to pick him up.

There are no tough teams anymore.

The league desperately needs a bully.

AV didn't pick him up for his fighting ability....

AV said "With him playing for Nashville last year, and being the last team to qualify for the playoffs and making it to the finals, He can help us based on that experience"

Does anybody actually believe even the coaching genius Chewy is dumb enough to think you deter the vast majority of NHL players by saying “boo” and starting a fight for whatever reason. Not even he is that dumb. The vast majority of NHL players don’t get intimidated in today’s NHL. There are no more knuckle draggers to intimidate them, and even then they mostly fought amongst themselves. Tough guys in today’s NHL can play a little. Once you wrap your head around it’s not deterrence, just good old fashioned payback a coach is looking for when he puts a McLeod on the ice to start a fight, it becomes easier to understand. Especially when you watch a McLeod beeline it to the guy everybody at the rink knows he’s going to fight. Only wonder coach can explain why most years at this point in the season he brought Glass back up, and obviously had input on noted acquisitions, Ashom, Carcillo, and now McLeod. McLeod and his 8 hits, did nothing to embarrass himself against Toronto, and he will be a extra body til the end of the season no more but maybe less. Adding McLeod has twofold probable reasoning by Chewy, one to add a body up front to fill a hole created if Nash and Grabner are traded, and two to fill Chewys proven need for that type of player at this time of year. Ask him why he does it.
