On NBCSN last night, Bob McKenzie said the following about the Rangers potential offseason plans:

https://www.sny.tv/rangers/news/looking-at-different-possibilities-f...

Ut-Oh..........
"keep this in mind, even though they are rebuilding, they aren't tearing it down and if there is an opportunity - if they can sign Ilya Kovalchuk this summer on a short-term deal or Rick Nash or Grabner come back, if they are willing to take short-term deals, they will look at plugging a lot of holes with veteran guys. And, Erik Karlsson is not out of the question in terms of at least looking back and seeing if they could possibly make this work. They will be trying to do two things at the same time, rebuild and fill in the holes with veteran guys as long as they are not long-term deals."

Mikey, sounds like you should start picking a new team then...just my thought, if I know the Rangers and their history is true to form

Also very disheartening to read that Its up to AV if he wants to stay for a rebuild or not? Are you kidding me?

If you play your cards right....you can take some form of Kreider, Zuc and Zib and the 3 #1's and come back with Trouba and AND a spot in the top 5

AV would absolutely be the WORST coach to have around for a rebuild. He can't win in the playoffs with an already built team i.e. Vancouver NY.

He doesn't know how to are is willing to work with young players.

Winnipeg and Calgary do not have 1st round picks....We can help them with that......Winnipeg has Trouba...who doesnt want to be there....and Calgary has supposedly a bunch of very good D pro-spects. I'd rather have Trouba because he is already an established young NHLer...and I have read in some places that He is in play......Getting million beat up miles Karlsson when he is 1 year away from UFA is just the wrong way to go....We could of just kept MacDonagh if thats the plan

That's exactly the type of thing YOU DO NOT DO if you're rebuilding/tooling/whatever it is they're doing.....

So what if he's a so-called "elite" player...they say the same thing about JJ but you don't see retooling teams rushing out to sign him to a 2-year deal. At that age, let him stay elite in the KHL because he will not be elite in the NHL.

JJ is 46 years old...2 year contract to plug 1 spot to a good player is fine with me....Would you rather have Albert, Cody, Carey, Holland, DD ? He is better than Nash

But everyone still says JJ is "elite". If you're gonna spend the money, get a good player -- not an aged, 35+ head case.

JJ is not still elite....hence no job offers....ALWAYS their game plan has been to try to buy a team or foolish trade their way to success ....they did it right in the late 80's and early 90's by drafting a lot of solid prospects that went on to great NHL careers.....too many of them with other teams because of gutless coward Neil Smith.

You seem to want everyone traded, not want anyone being mentioned or not want already gone to come back. Seems you want a team with 1 forward (Kovy) and 1 d-man (Trouba). We'll be shorthanded every shift with only 2 skaters

Yeah pretty much...If we have things of value to sell...then we should sell....Kreider ....Teams will salivate to get him...then find out he has no hockey IQ, has stone hands, and is a mental wreck....Zib is soft as pudding perimeter player, Zuc passitis....You build a team through the draft....No more MSL trades....no more albatross contracts to UFA's on the back end of their career that you end up buying out. Do it right. I have no prob with Kovy because he is still a very good player...we have a bushel of Russia kids that are either here or on the way...His presence will be huge.....If Nash wants to come back fine....but on a VERY lower contract that he is getting now...Same with Grabs...not breaking the bank for him either but his mojo seems to work with us

If these players are as bad as you think they are, what makes you think 30 other GMs and scouting staffs want them and are willing to overpay for them? Makes no sense, if we traded all these guys we'd have little to no NHL experience left. That's not a rebuild, that's sabotaging your own franchise.

You can't just put the Wolf Pack out there in Rangers sweaters and call it a rebuild. They'll lose and struggle and you'll destroy the development of all of them. This is the approach that the small market cheap teams take, instead of proper player development. Edmonton, Islanders, Carolina, Buffalo, Arizona. Just put a bunch of kids out there because they're cheap! These teams are perpetually bad despite constantly having high draft picks. Put them out there too early and all they learn is how to lose.

Kreider brings back a haul...he's 27....I HOPE we can unload Zib...he is talented but I dont want him.....Zuc is 1 year away from UFA and has value....So let's keep them so we have "veteran Presence" ? is ridiculous....We will have some older guys on the roster next year. Im ok if we suck....we will be young and getting stronger. You can still field a competitive team....Look at the Avalanche...Good hockey players are good hockey players...just cause they are young doesnt make them Wolf packers....Next year we will have at least..... Lias, Heatl, Buch, Vesey, Skjei, TD, Pionk, Gilmour, Shatt, Hayes, Spoons, Names, Albert .....with some more kids close....This is the way to go....The way we have done it forever does not work.....4 #1's and solid players given away for Nash, MSL, Yandle .....horrible... What do we have to show for all of that?

I said before the trade deadline I had no problem with the UFA's being traded, for futures and like Gorton's work on getting it done. I didn't want to see a young and inconsistent forward like Miller traded until a new coach came in and he along with Kreider, Zibanejad, Buchnevich got a chance to perform under a new set of eyes and play within a different system. If they continued to exhibit the warts we see, well then you move them. All a part of the two part rebuild it looks like the Rangers are doing. I don't mind Zucc going at the draft with his age and all, but trading any of the other afore mentioned players better be a homerun for the Rangers. Kreider in particular is a guy who I think his best hockey is still ahead of him, and under a new coach with a letter on his jersey, might still become the player he should be. And provide the necessary leadership Concust mentioned all teams need. One thing to remember about Kreider is he's never had the opportunity to play with a top center, and if and when he does his numbers which have never been bad will go up accordingly. Personally I believe in Kreider and think he just needs a decent center to play with.

no more albatross contracts to UFA's on the back end of their career that you end up buying out. Do it right. I have no prob with Kovy because he is still a very good player...

You do realize you've just contradicted yourself bigtime.

If Nash wants to come back fine....

Another dumb move....most teams (probably every team BUT the NYR) make it a habit of NOT bringing back major disappointments. As a matter of fact, those teams go as far as they can in the opposite direction.
