Rangers (32-32-8, 72 pts) vs. Blue Jackets (40-28-5, 85 pts)
7 pm; Madison Square Garden
MSG Network; ESPN 98.7 FM

The Game

The Rangers return home to host one of the hottest teams in the NHL, the Columbus Blue Jackets, at Madison Square Garden.

The Blueshirts picked up a point in a 4-3 overtime loss Saturday night in St. Louis against the Blues. Mika Zibanejad scored twice to give him four goals in his last two games, and Mats Zuccarello once to give him four tallies in the last five games.

After serving as the backup in the last three games, goatlender Henrik Lundqvist will make the start against Columbus, a team he's 11-7-1 against in 20 games during his career.

The Rangers have one win in the three games against the Blue Jackets this season, though it came at home. Columbus topped the Rangers, 2-0, in the last meeting on Nov. 17 in Columbus. All three games have been decided by two goals, while the Rangers are 3-for-12 on the power play.

Columbus comes in on an eight-game winning streak, including a 5-4 overtime victory over the Bruins last night in Boston. That run has propelled the Blue Jackets back into the discussion for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division, as they enter play Tuesday night tied with Philadelphia with 85 points, and two behind Pittsburgh for second in the divison.

Artemi Panarin leads the club with 22 and 64 points, followed by defenseman Seth Jones' 49 points.

Sergei Bobrovsky is expected to get the start after Joonas Korpisalo beat the Bruins Monday night. Bobrovsky is 32-21-5 with a 2.41 GAA and a .921 SV% with four shutouts.

Players to Watch

Vladislav Namestnikov has an assist in each of the three games he's played against the Blue Jackets this season as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Jones is near the top of the NHL's scoring list among defenseman, and has been hot as of late with eight points in his last five games.

Rangers Projected Lineup

Chris Kreider - Mika Zibanejad - Jesper Fast
Ryan Spooner - Kevin Hayes - Mats Zuccarello
Jimmy Vesey - Vladislav Namestnikov - Pavel Buchnevich
Cody McLeod - David Desharnais - Paul Carey

Marc Staal - Neal Pionk
Brady Skjei - Ryan Sproul
Rob O'Gara - John Gilmour

Inside the Numbers

The Rangers have won 10 of their last 15 games against the Blue Jackets, dating back to Jan. 16, 2015 (10-5-0 record over the span).

What's really tough is watching the 4th line out there. Everyone of them just awful. Can't wait for Lias and Heat-L to get here so we don't have to see Dijoniase anymore

Stop your both right, Fast is so overrated by chewy it’s ridiculous. I don’t see it. I see a lightweight fourth liner on a good team at best. There is a article floating around today that in chewys words gives all the credit of Kreider and Zibanejad’s recent success to Albert because his incredible work ethic is driving them. If you really watch that line tonight I can just about guarantee Albert will be the one coughing up the puck in the other teams end the majority of the time. I have never seen a NHL coach constantly blowing smoke up everyones ass about a player like chewy does with Albert.
Desharnais should have been gone months ago, he’s just another chewy favourite.

Fast is fine, but he's not a first liner. He's the new Lauri Korpikoski, you can play him in any situation and he won't lose you any games, but he's not going to win you any either. He's remarkable only in how unremarkable he is.

But he’s fine. Play him in any situation and he accomplishes nothing. Those are the guys that get cut.

True...yet for some reason....some go so extremely over board with ridiculous emotions on this non-descript player.

Oh my!! He's got an "A" on his jersey!!! Blasphemy!!! Yet....the players have a say on who gets the letters on the front. And...contrary to the "experts" who seem to know this player so well, the team (yes, the NY Rangers players) voted him the Player's Player award last season. A very nice honor from his teammates....yet HOW COULD THEY??? I'm reading that some people are on the verge of killing themselves cause he has a "A" on his chest.

Then again, I read that we should get rid of anyone over 22 anyway, and trade any player that has more than 6 months with the team (for picks, picks, and more picks).....so maybe its all good after all.

Albert has no business being a Captain or above the 4th line.....picks are better than not having picks

you're a union guy, right? If the union elects a leader that you don't like....are you this adamant about telling everyone that the person shouldn't be one of the leaders?

Can we please find a way to get rid of Staal? How does a defenseman with no offensive upside constantly find himself caught in the offensive zone?

His NMC becomes a limited trade clause this summer. He’s moveable if the Rangers choose to. At his present level of play and the youth movement and emergence of Pionk and Gilmour, they may as well try to move him.
