Been checking up on Mr. lindgren and liking what I'm seeing. He looks like a Girardi with a lot more confidence and a expectation of playing a gritty hard nosed game in the Rangers end. Music to my ears. Rumored to be signing with the Rangers on Friday, he brings a skill set long lacking and hopefully is a indication the Rangers will be looking for a coach this spring, who appreciates Lindgrens talents, instead of a tunnel vision dough head who's game plan has been stuck in useless since he got here. I'm also not overly concerned about his so called limited offensive game, which can still be developed. Good read here.

Yeah I'm not sure which of the 3 defense prospects I like best, but Lindgren is great! Kid plays an intense brand of hockey, I love it. Going to be fun watching him evolve. He and Andersson are going to get along well together.

There's a logjam at LD, I'm not convinced that signing at this point is a better option for him than staying at Minnesota.

Yeah true...I doubt the Rangers are pushing him....Its up to him and the people around him to be honest with him...seems like in NCAA the hockey is only played on the weekends....maybe full time in Hartford will be a good test

He has good vision. I wouldn't say he has no offense. Moves the puck well.

Well, good luck to the kid... he/they must think he's got a good shot at sticking in Hartford because you don't want to have to send him down to the ECHL now that returning to NCAA is not an option.

Will probably sign an ATO and play with Hartford for the rest of the year first so at least we'll get a good look at him this year.

If he can skate, he has offense. Skjei also had no offense in college, in part due to the system that Minnesota plays. Lindgren may turn out the same way.

Either your ready to move up or your not. The Rangers obviously feel he’s ready and had zero reason to rush him. It’s important to challenge these guys with steps up the ladder, when they exhibit success at a level. You make room at the level he’s moving to if he’s ready, it’s that simple. Gorton can add and knows he has a shortage of right dmen all through the organization and to many left handed dmen. It’s something that I’m sure he’s going to address this summer. The thing Lindgren has going for himself is he’s a unique type of dman that the Rangers don’t have another of, (Smith maybe if he has his **** together) and the door is wide open for him as a third pair guy to get his feet wet. Or more likely he steps in for Hartford to start. It’s not like the Rangers have a lot of talent on defense and it’s a area that needs addressing, by trade and at this upcoming draft.

For my money O’Gara has been ordinary. He’s improved as he’s gone along. I don’t think he’s been bad. But I don’t see him back next year, and hopefully his performance with the Rangers can net something back in a trade. I think he’s prime out with the old in with the new ( Lindgren) material. As mentioned the Rangers have a lot of work and bodies to deal with on D. Not to mention Smith and Staal’s future. I’m real interested in what Gorton does.

I would like to see him in a different system. He seems to be positionally ok and he does use his body. Sometimes he is puck watching, but he only has short time in the NHL. He could be a steady 3rd pair guy/#7.

Rangers are loaded with third pair guys. I’m not sure after Skjei’s season that he is a number three, more likely he’s a number four on a good team. It’s all over the map with Shattenkirk at best a three or four dman, Staal a bottom end guy now. Gorton has some work to do to fix the top end of the defense because right now I don’t think they have a 1, 2, or 3 dman. If Skjei doesn’t get a whole lot more consistent and compete harder it’s even bleaker.

The Rangers need a guy like him as the best D I can see on the ice and as a pro is Shattenkirk who SUCKS on anything but the PP... Skeji is ok.. but he is MDZ/Boyle to me as he looks lost more than found.... Gilmour has been OK... Poink is there.. not great, not terrible... Staal is Staal.. he is looking like the Rangers best D man right now.. which is not saying much... Smith I never thought they should have traded for let alone resigned O Gara is big... and he is.... big... he needs to work on his game like Poink does too.. Sproul is in the same boat i think they are guys who are just outmatched at the NHL level and are looking for some coaching or something... So Lingren coming in and playing alongside SKeji or Shattenkirk to make sure someone defends... would be great

You could give AV the six best defensemen in the league and in 2 months they'd be giving up the most shots and scoring chances in the league.

do not give a damn about the new NHL .... I want my defensemen, all of them, to play defense. This kid seems to fit the bill and has great attributes, some size, skating, hockey knowledge and puck skills. If he can use his assets to keep pucks in o-zone an neutral zone that will go a long to getting offense going for the shift. He is not going to run a PP but perhaps a key PK player? Let's get Rykov over now!!

I think it’s premature to box this guy into a no offence game. . And not saying your post says that, more agreeing with you that he has some assets skating, and a shot to use to his advantage refining his game. He wouldn’t be the first player to finish two years of college hockey with minimal offensive numbers. For what it’s worth he still was the second highest scoring dman on his roster. Hartford can figure out his offensive upside and I’m sure he will get some offensive reps finishing out the year.

Sometimes offense is defense.

If you have a player who can take the puck and gain the offensive zone, and has the talent and ability to keep it in the offensive zone, that is defense. Limiting the amount of time the other team has the puck and can do things with it (score, shoot, pin your team in the defensive zone) is the basic definition of defense.

The best kind of defense is not having to play defense.

Ha doubt it, but he has more to his game then hitting. Kid is a spark plug with and without the puck.

Yeah points well taken. Given the kid's assets he may very well contribute offensively even it is breaking a play in the neutral zone starting a transition. I just believe the kid's current skillset and knowledge of the defensive side of the puck is good enough for me. All we need now is viable system of play ....

I’m not worried about Lindgren improving his offensive game, largely because any time he’s played with his peers he’s played on the pp. Next year if he’d of stuck in College I’m sure he would have got his fair share of offensive time. He has excellent potential to be a sturdy fan favourite dman.

As long as AV is gone I have no problem keeping any and all young defensemen. O'Gara hasn't looked great but a little better lately. ADA was playing better before he got hurt. Under a new system they might improve. Unless you manage to dump Staal and Smith I'd stay away from vets and go with kids.

Too many people on this board have adopted AV's moronic philosophy on defenseman. Thinking they need offense to their game. What this team needs is 4 defenseman who can hit, clear the crease, win puck battles, stop top forwards and not turn the puck over. As well as a new coach who understands what defensive hockey is.
