Michael Lindqvist was released from his contract after clearing waivers. The 24-year-old winger, who signed with the Rangers as a free agent this summer, will rejoin Farjestad of the SHL after having recorded seven points (3-4) in 16 games for the Wolf Pack.

This is a little strange to me, as Lindqvist had a european assignment clause in his contract. The Rangers could have retained his rights, and simply assigned him to SHL if that's where he wanted to play. I had assumed the release was so that he could join KHL (to which he could not be assigned by the Rangers)

My only takeaway is that both sides wanted to fully terminate the relationship - Rangers free up a contract slot, and Lindqvist is free to sign with another NHL club (although that probably won't happen)

No confusion the Rangers were happy to see him go.
