Besides all this, who gives a f uck if he screwed them or not?

It's all academic. In the end I'm just happy that the Islanders are pissed. I really doubt though that he had an agenda to screw the team, whether or not the results ended up that way.

Agreed...

This is when Gorton should be looking to move. we have the RFA's and extra C's to deal with. I just read that Toronto is looking to move Martin and his 2.5 mill cap hit (he would be a very good fit for us for 2 years), and maybe Horton's 5.3 mill cap hit (I would take that if we got a valuable asset back). Gorton needs to wake up now, be creative and get some stuff done.

This is about the awful owners and inept GM mainly anyway. Tavares did what is his right, but still doesn't mean he didn't F the Isles by doing it the way he did.

True, probably semantics, but I would say the Islanders F'ed themselves here. They painted themselves into a corner and when Tavares left, he looks like the bad guy. They're stuck in a perpetual rebuild not because they don't have good players on the ice (there have been many good players going through the Island in the past 10 years) but because management can't get their act together and get all the pieces to work together at the right time.

Agree. And IMO I don't view Tavares as the bad guy. I personally am not sure he handled it the right way, but he did what is his right to do, so more power to him. If I was an Isles fan I would not be happy with Tavares, but I also would be real and know we had a terrible GM and an awful owner who take the VERY large amount of the blame for sure.

Senators have given interested teams permission to talk contract extension with Karlsson. Sounds as if he is looking for Doughty deal (8x11)

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Nothing I have seen makes me think we are even remotely in the mix. Always seemed like Vegas was at the top of the list.

Interesting signing by the Flames. 2 year deal on Buddy Robinson. Buddy who, you say? Buddy Robinson 6'6" 235 guy who was high school teammate of Johnny Geaudreau at Glochester Catholic in South Jersey. I remember my son's team playing against them when my son and Johnny were sophomores and Geaudreau was all of 5 foot tall and 100 lbs. Robinson was 6'5 and over 200 lbs. Geaudreau scored 5 or 6 and assisted on a few more. Robinson probably the beneficiary of the assists. Right then and there I knew Johnny Hockey was probably the best player I'd ever seen play with or against any of my kids.

Johnny helping an old friend or needing a big, familiar running mate?

I'd love him too. Just not while we're rebuilding. By the time the Rangers are back to being competetive he'll be on his way down and not worth the money. Maybe 3 years ago I would have went after him. But so much of his game is built on speed and those foot injuries combined with aging and that price...... Pass.

100% agree. He started his career as a point producer with not much defensive edge to his game, but has grown and rounded out into a complete defenseman who still puts up elite numbers. I'd love to have him but he doesn't fit the team we have. True of many good players.

If Ryan is part of a Karlsson deal Ottawa fans will be dissapointed in the return. Ottawa is shooting themselves in the foot doing that. After Karlsson is gone they will be bad, and struggling to reach the minimum salary cap for the duration of Ryan’s contract, almost certainly. Very dumb to take a hit on Karlsson value tying Ryan to a deal.

As was the case the last time The Rangers sucked, and The Leafs had Brian Leetch.... I think I want Toronto to win. With Tavares and Matthews. Marner and Nylander. They have a good shot at it. Buyers by the deadline, for sure.

I hope they lose, the local fans turn on Matthews because he's American and Toronto makes him available.

Not happy about this .

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/leafs-trade-matt-martin-islander...

Martin checks a lot of boxes for the Rangers and the Isles gave up nothing. You can’t have a bunch of kids on a team without a couple of Martin types. Gorton must have been having a nap or something.

For years and years, Rangers management gets b!tched at by fans for over spending on players and signing bad FA contracts... for not developing from the draft, and not letting the kids play.

And now that it looks like they're doing all of those things, fans still aren't satisfied.

Get real Rob they didn’t pick up the prototype of what they need for nothing and with no cap damage. We are not talking any kind of investment at all. They need someone to look after the kids, this was a blown opportunity.

I actually don't agree with you rob, and here is why, no one is saying sign Tavares or trade for/sign Karlsson or sign JVR. It is actually the exact opposite. Smart smaller moves like Martin or Schenn make sense to me. Not long term and not huge money. That is the exact opposite of what we have historically done and the fans complain about.

How about some balance and smart smaller term/money signings. How about trading one of our 6 C's for a dman. How about trading a RFA for a dman. Things like that.

So no I do not agree. No one is saying sign all these big ticket items and be usual Rangers. But how about he wakes up from his slumber to balance things out and make some smart savvy trades and signings. Leaving plenty of room for kids and a mix of good smart vets. That's the approach. Not go 100% quiet and do nothing at all. Come on.
