Kravtsov went to go hang out with his dad while they figure out where he'll play hockey next.

Rykov was eliminated from the playoffs, and in limbo as well....

Shestyorkin moves on to the semifinals

Vancouver just signed Quinn Hughes, which basically confirms that if Kravtsov signs either with the Rangers or the Wolf Pack on ATO, he will be ineligible for the expansion draft if he plays under 11 pro games.

Traktor won't terminate Vitali Kravtsov's contract, team's GM just confirmed me that, so don't expect Kravtsov to join #NYR this season

This contradicts their earlier statement, and historically KHL teams (Traktor included) have been willing to do this, so without putting on my tinfoil hat I think Kravtsov doesn't see a good situation to come over to for the end of this year, and have asked Traktor to provide cover for him.

It's possible that Gorton told him we'd love to have you here in Hartford (save a year on ELC) and Kravtsov didn't want to do that but he also didn't want to look like the bad guy, so Traktor stepped in and said we're not releasing him from his contract.

Yep...but if not...If Gorton said go back to KHL for more seasoning if hes not ready for NHL....Then Traktor is burning a bridge here

Traktor's GM has given a statement regarding Kravtsov. One of the reasons they don't want to release him is because it means losing his KHL rights, and with a possible NHL lockout they would give up a valuable asset by doing so. #NYR

That actually makes much more sense than my conspiracy theory

Almost a year later, I'm curious as to who would still prefer Wahlstrom over Kravtsov. Anyone? If so, why?

Well I don't know anything about prospects so I can say I'd rather have him. Our ratio of Canadian players is too low. They still make up 45% of the players in the league but I think we only have 3 on the team. Moar Canadians are needed and we should have picked one there.

True, too early to tell, way too early. THN loves this Kravtsov player, they say if he keeps up the progress that he is showing, Rangers have a steal.

Kravtsov was a surprise, he still has it to do, but at this point in time it looks like a well researched pick.

...this is true, & I think the Rangers knew he would NOT make it to the 2nd rnd. I guess they really wanted this player instead of best available/rated. I wonder if he would make it to the 2nd rnd, we'll never know, but I don't think so.

Wahlstrom and Dobson were still on the board. Both hyped as sure thing top ten picks all year. After Kravtsov was picked most TSN people were surprised and wondered why they didn't trade down to draft him. It looked like another Andersson reach who they also could have traded down for. I think it's also a little premature asking this question because Kravtsov whos claim to fame in north america is dominating a prospect camp still has it to do, like Dobson and Wahlmstrom, neither of whom I'd sell short.

perhaps if they felt the need for another young d-man, Dobson was passed up because they had K'Andre Miller rated higher and knew he'd go 10 or so picks lower.

BTW, Miller, as a defensemen had a couple more points (in 10 or so less games) than Wahlstrom in their freshman college seasons. Reports out of BC are that Wahlstrom underperformed, so hard to say if he will be what he was cracked up to be pre-draft

I don't blame you for reserving true opinion until actually seeing him on NHL ice... but there's no reason to doubt.

All signs point to not just NHL ready, but ready to make an impact. Nothing against Dobson, but I just don't think we will be regretting this pick by this time.next year.

He'll be in talks for The Calder, I think

Just messing with you guys and pointing out that your initial reaction is not always the accurate one - a lot can change in a year. Dobson had a good year, Wahlstrom had a bad year, Kravtsov had a great year.

I was a little dubious about the pick at first, because I am always hesitant about a pick who "shot up the charts" in short amount of time, which Kravtsov did.

This is also why I would never have put Kakko above Hughes, no matter how good his WC tournament turned out to be. In the end I think the Rangers looked at their draft position and decided they wanted Kravtsov, Miller, and Lundkvist, versus Dobson at 9, and then a more mediocre forward in the 20s, and then whatever's left in the late round. It looks like a good choice at this point.

For defensemen especially, my rule of thumb is, you don't take Jay Bouwmeester at #3. That is, unless you know the defenseman is going to be a #1 franchise two way defenseman, take a talented forward instead. There's always good middle- and depth, unflashy defensemen available later in the first round and plenty in the later rounds. So unless it's a Seth Jones or a Hedman or Dahlin, save that pick for later. I like the Roberston pick this year for just this reason. Good defenseman, good value in that pick.

No one was going to interchange Kappo for Hughes just because of his world Championship performance. Not after following both for three full years prior to the WC, you were for one or the other already. Hughes is a good player but I'll take Kappo first every day.
To not draft Bowmeester at three is a terrible example of your untested theory, that no NHL or Junior team that drafts follows. They take "their" higher rated players especially in the first round. Classic and brilliant example Columbus taking Dubois over the Central Scouting higher ranked Pujujarvi. Bowmeester has won everything in hockey, drafted exactly where he should have been. The only defenseman of real note drafted after was Duncan keith and he was drafted about where he should have been. Keith had size issues and a game that was far from polished when drafted. Keith grew and came miles after being drafted, playing another year of college and two years in the AHL. When Keith was drafted he was a project and a gamble that paid off in spades. You wouldn't take Bowmeester third overall and would have taken a talented forward instead, well I'm all ears to see who that might have been in that draft and you get to play monday morning quarterback unlike the scouts who draft perceived potential.

Feel much better about Kakko and Kravtsov having big first years with Panarin here and Zibanejad breaking out last year.
