Spooner waived, not a bad trade to get an NHL player in this trade.

Yes he is ripe. Strome for Spooner was a teaser.

Strome went fifth overall, He's still at 25 a player that could recapture the early scoring numbers he had with the Pilses. He has been pretty good with the Rangers. I think Quinn realizes this guy has real good talent and is giving him a golden opportunity to step his game up. excellent trade for Gorton.

Based on how Chiarelli evaluates talent, that's a high compliment

Spooner was probably close to being waived in New York and along came a guy who has made terrible trades. Strome for Spooner was perfect timing for the Rangers. Classic something for nothing trade for the Rangers. Strome has shown some jam, hands, brains and effort. The question is can he pop his game? Personally I think he’s got game we haven’t seen. Question is will we, he’s got a foothold with Quinn and the rest is up to him. Certainly has the talent and gumption to be a pretty good third or fourth liner on a real good team.

Yeah great trade. Not hard to do do when you're dealing with Chia pet. Strome is a good player but he's also frustrating because I can't quite figure out how he hasn't put it all together yet. Fifth overall pick - he has the talent - he's quick to the puck, good offensive instincts, good stickhandler. Even if he's not the best defensive forward, by the eye test he still looks like he should be getting more shots and chances. Having said that his shot doesn't seem to be great and he's more of a pass first guy, but even with all I've mentioned he looks like he should be a 20 goal, 50 point type of player. Confidence? Line mates? Coaching? Can't put my finger on it.

I think he is going to get it sorted out here. You can’t play for two bigger crap shows than he has on the island and Edmonton. He’s been pretty good with the Rangers and I think gaining confidence as he’s gone along. I’d like to see more of him at Center with some decent wingers.

Good point about EDM and NYI. He had one good year I recall, I'm guessing he had good linemates that year. Otherwise he was probably playing with nothing.

He says all the right things in that article too. He understands how fleeting this chance can be and he may be on his last chance in the NHL. Takes his responsibilities seriously and seems really coachable. That's got to go a long way. I doubt at this point he'll be the 1C he was drafted to be but I think he could easily be a 2C/3C on a contender type, kind of a middle 6 utility guy. I'm rooting for him.
