KINGS (20-27-4) at RANGERS (22-22-7)

7 p.m. ET; NHLN, SNE, SNO, SNW, MSG, FS-W, NHL.TV

The Game

Mats Zuccarello will try to extend his streak of consecutive games played with at least one point to eight when the New York Rangers face the Los Angeles Kings at Madison Square Garden on Monday.

Zuccarello, a 31-year-old right wing, has 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in his past seven games. He missed one game because of a foot infection.

The Rangers are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, their second in three games.

The Kings started a season high six-game road trip with a 4-2 loss to the New York Islanders on Saturday, when they allowed three goals in the final 6:14 of the third period. They are 3-2-1 in six games since Jan. 12.

Players to watch

Rangers center Mika Zibanejad has 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) in his past 10 games.

Kevin Hayes, in his fourth game back from a nine-game absence preceding the All-Star break, has points in back-to-back games (1-2-3) and has scored in each of his three career Garden games against L.A.

Kings center Anze Kopitar has five points (two goals, three assists) in his past three games.

Ilya Kovalchuk has three goals in five games after going 10 straight without one. He put up three points (1-2-3) in the teams' Oct. 28 meeting to make it 45 points (22-23-45) in 49 career games against the Blueshirts.

They said it

"It's easy to say we've got to score more goals. That's one thing we have to do. I think we're doing things. Our 'D' are involved. We're getting some looks. But saying that, we're up 2-1 [against the Islanders], we've got to find a way to shut that door." -- Kings coach Willie Desjardins

"Even though maybe we had three good games since the break we only have two points, and that's not enough here. If you don't get points, things are going to change." -- Rangers center Kevin Hayes

Kings projected lineup

Alex Iafallo -- Anze Kopitar -- Dustin Brown

Brendan Leipsic -- Jeff Carter -- Tyler Toffoli

Carl Hagelin -- Adrian Kempe -- Ilya Kovalchuk

Rangers projected lineup

Filip Chytil -- Ryan Strome -- Vladislav Namestnikov

Boo Nieves -- Jimmy Vesey

Status report

DeAngelo, scratched the past two games, will replace McLeod. Coach David Quinn said he thinks New York's forwards play better when they get more ice time, which is why he's dressing 11. He said he'd use Smith as a forward if he wants a four-line rotation. … Thompson, who missed the game against the Islanders with the flu, has not been ruled out from playing. Desjardins said if he doesn't, then he'll play against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Tuesday.

Stat pack

Since the start of the 2015-16 season, the Rangers are 22-4-3 when a Pacific Division team visits the Garden, including a 2-0-1 record against L.A.

Kreider, Zuccarello and Zibanejad have combined for 35 points (16 goals, 19 assists) in seven games they've played together since Jan. 12.

Anze Kopitar leads the Kings with 36 points (15-21-36). Only Arizona and Anaheim have a leading scorer with a lower point total.

The Kings rank last in the league with 115 goals, 2.25 per game.

Connecticut-born Jonathan Quick's most recent victory, on Jan. 21 vs. St. Louis heading into the Kings' break, was career win No. 302, passing his childhood idol Mike Richter into fourth all-time among American goaltenders.

Brown needs two points to reach 600 in the NHL.

Say what you want, the Rangers have dominated 3 of the last 4 periods they've played. 3 against Tampa and this one as well. I'd say they dominated all 3 against Philly as well. They don't have the horses yet, but they are playing well.

Signing Shattenkirk is among the top 10 worst free agent defenseman signings in the past 20 years for this franchise. Aaron Ward, Wade Redden, Shattenkirk, take your pick.

****ing guy is taking dumb penalties and blowing defensive assignments now. But he still gets knocked on his ass a lot and can't score, so that's nice.

Frodo has definitely taken off the ring lately. Much of it is because he's finally shooting the damn puck instead of always passing. Quinn finally got through to him. Big trade value.
