2018 we shall see

The guy we should have taken was Dobson. He was named Most Valuable Player of the 2018-19 QMJHL playoffs, and went on to win the Memorial Cup with Rouyn. Another sure bet we passed on, taken by the Fishies, and in 20 years from now, I fear we will be chanting Dobson sucks.

Gordies 2 moments in the Sun are 2005 and 2008

2008 was the first draft that Clark ran as Director of Player Personnel.

If I had to grade Clark based on what he's had to work with (all those 1st round picks traded in consideration), and how the rest of the league has fared, I'd give him a C. Not terrible, but not great. Not good enough IMO.

Gordie started in 2005. Marc Staal was his first pick

Not so sure about that. Prior to 2008, Gordie was only the Head Amateur Scout. Don Maloney was running the draft.

Biggest failure with Gordie is how many bad misses he has had on the 1's 2006 Sanguinetti...next pick was Claude Giroux ...2007 we will never know about Chrepanov but he could of picked Nash Paccioretty Perron or Backlund 2008 Del Zotto instead of Eberle or Carlson....2010 awful pick Mclrath...missed Fowler Schwartz Tarasenko Watson Bjugstad Sheahan Kuznetzov Coyle Nelson ....2011 JTM is nothing special....missed 5 guys ...Gordie should have been fired by now. Lias was a terrible pick.....2018 we shall see

Unless you were in the draft room and know otherwise, those picks are all on Sather. He had the final say.

No Sir my friend....Gordie has absolutely had the final say all the way up to the mic. I hope with JD here now he gets fired

Sort of... Sather ultimately has veto power but the whole point of having an entire staff of amateur scouts is so one guy doesn't have to know/do everything. If your head scout says to draft Joe Blow in the first round, either you veto that pick because you're an egomaniac or you make the pick because you trust the people you hired.

Every team can point to "misses" and "you could have had XXX player 2 picks later" but that's hindsight. When you look at the longer term trends and weight by draft position, Rangers picks turn out ok. Not the best, hardly the worst.

I like the direction of this team & the direction this team is taking so does THN. This team will be force for years to come in 2-3 years, not next season, but 2-3.
