I remember an article Pronman wrote not too long ago making a case for Kakko going #1 overall.... I think it was just before the display he put on at the WC, too.

Every single scout and hockey writer describes Hughes and Kakko "in a class of their own."

And from what I've seen and read Bowen Byram is the next best available.... tgat the only reason Byram would fall past 3 is if Chicago (and the Avs) pick more on team need, as they both already have a stocked defense core in their system....

Both Turcotte and Zegras are good players, but Kakko is the most NHL ready... not just ready to play like Lias was, but ready to make an impact.

Zegras is going to play in BU next season.....

That said, as we get closer to draft day, everyone seems more and more confident that Hughes is undoubtedly going #1

And to me it's not because he's the better player, or even projected to be.... it boils down to he's an American kid that has been hyped and has the privilege of being in the elite hockey circles for so long.

I honestly think Kakko is the best player and will continue to be the best player as time goes on. We're going to be lucky enough to draft him at #2, and every single Rangers fan should be over the moon about this fact.

He has the potential to be the best
player this organization has ever drafted.... try to let that sink in.... Certainly the best forward

Updated the list to factor in Nutivaara. Thanks to @LucasDenny for pointing it out. The good news for is Columbus is that the Jackets are no longer in the red. The bad news is that the Rangers since 2014 still suck at drafting in later rounds.

I was told that Tampa's later-round hits were just "luck", and that the NYR aren't all that bad drafting between Rounds 3-7 compared to everyone else.

Well, wrong. Since 2014-17, Tampa's the best at gettting NHL games from its 3rd to 7th rounders; NYR one of the worst

Zegras would be a good target if we didn't win the lottery and were drafting 9. Not at 2.

Interesting stuff with Chicago at No. 3. Bowman is in a good position to be in, but there are two major questions he's probably asking himself:

Will I ever get another chance to draft a Bowen Byram?

or

Will I ever get another chance to draft a Trevor Zegras or Alex Turcotte?

Hmmmm I wonder why they used 2014 as the cutoff? Go back one more year and 2013 NYR draftees play an additional 494 NHL games from rounds 3-7. (Buchnevich, Duclair, Graves, Skapski) That don't fit their narrative though.

There's maybe 2 guys from rob's list that will be NHL'ers.

2014-17 is a weird time range to consider, especially for later rounders, who are less likely to jump right into nhl action. Also it's a 4 year range for some reason? The latest draft that I'd use if I wanted meaningful information is 2015. That gives any prospects drafted, 3 years to get to the NHL (and a playing year). Expecting a late round pick from 2017 to jump into the NHL is dumb. Why would you use this date range. Makes no sense. (Unless you're cherry picking stats)

Gettinger put in some reps in the NHL this year. Joey Keane and Nico Gross seem ready to take the next step into the pros. Lauri Pajuniemi played on the same team as Kakko in Finland

2014 Point 3rd rounder 229 games 2015 Cirelli 3rd rounder 100 games ... Joseph 4th rounder 72 games ....Hoo ray! Gordie picked Buch Duclair Graves and Skapski in 2013...one of his few success stories if you want to call it that....what about 14 15 16? Yes Gordie is doing a bang up job....Much rather have who we picked over Point Cirelli and Joseph....

2008 was the first draft that Clark ran as Director of Player Personnel.

If I had to grade Clark based on what he's had to work with (all those 1st round picks traded in consideration), and how the rest of the league has fared, I'd give him a C. Not terrible, but not great. Not good enough IMO.

Biggest failure with Gordie is how many bad misses he has had on the 1's 2006 Sanguinetti...next pick was Claude Giroux ...2007 we will never know about Chrepanov but he could of picked Nash Paccioretty Perron or Backlund 2008 Del Zotto instead of Eberle or Carlson....2010 awful pick Mclrath...missed Fowler Schwartz Tarasenko Watson Bjugstad Sheahan Kuznetzov Coyle Nelson ....2011 JTM is nothing special....missed 5 guys ...Gordie should have been fired by now. Lias was a terrible pick.....2018 we shall see
