I am 100% on board with this guy and have more than a few concerns the NYD's will take him. This guys game is built for playoffs and battling. He's had success at Center and on the wing in the Finnish League. Head to head against Hughes on the ice, I'd be betting Kakko.
I will be suprised and happy if the Devils take Hughes.

Excellent article on Kappo here with actual insight on his center play.

I can live with either guy....If we can draft Hughes perhaps some wheeling and dealing can happen instead

It's a can't lose situation. Hughes will probably be the better player in the long run, but Kakko is going to hit the ground running

Kakko looks solid as a rock ... and game ready NOW.. next year could see the Rangers and the youth they have in the fold... and bring in Krastov and Kakko step into th e team and do not rule out Panerin.. so that is a LOT of talent to drop on a team in one summer add Shestyorkin who should be the starter in Hartford... but waiting to take the reigns.. then you have about 3 D kids who will be in camp and ready to run ... it is exciting to see so much young talent... and Shestyorkin and Miller and Krastov show the Rangers have a player in each position who looks like a blue chipper.. Kakko would be another.

IF that plays out as you describe (and I hope it does), 3 forwards and 2 defensemen have to go from the current roster. My thoughts are Fast, Veasy and Nieves are goners. On defense, Smith and Shattenkirk (I wish) but more likely Pionk won't be here next year.

With the youth additions, that will make it easier for the expansion draft. Krastov, Kakko and Miller are exempt. Don't know about Hajek.

All in all, fun times ahead.

No doubt about it the Rangers are going to have a significant infusion of new talent. Kakko or Hughes, Kravtsov, Hajek, Lindgren possibly Fox. And Shestorokin will be on the Rangers. One hopes Chytil and Andersson with no more excuses make major steps. That's a lot of oomph replacing Nieves, Brickley, probably, Claussen, Pionk? Smith? Shattenkirk? Who knows but they should be a exciting group with a younger team, fast and skilled.

I really have no problem with either guy. They are just different types of player. They're both going to score a lot of points, they'll just utilize different skills to get them.

I've seen him compared to Kopitar... I think he skates better than Kopitar, but Kopitar is really strong... and prolly 50 bigger. But Kakkp will still grow some and prolly settle in at 215-220 lbs. I think he cn become the centerpiece the rangers have been lacking... That's if the Debbies don't snatch him... Hughes is much smaller at this point and will be more of a finesse player which couldn't hurt either.I am good with either guy but Kakko is my first choice. I hope he is working hard on his game and his English.

Hughes doing it against boys. Kakko doing it against men. Not saying that in a belittling way towards Hughes, but let's remember that. I think this is all sort of a moot point anyway. Both have stud potential, they have clearly opened up a gap between themselves and # 3 in the draft, and we are guaranteed to get one. I see no downside at all. We are in a great spot.

Yes, it's relative. I said in an earlier post that Hughes should be dominant in this tournament, and he has been. Kakko's still playing in exhibitions and we'll see how he does at the WC. He won't be dominant but he'll be playing at a whole different level. Also USA's U18 squad is easily the best in their tournament, Finland will have a relatively weak squad at WC so that factors in too. I do take quality of competition into account when watching performances.

Do we know what # the Jets pick is yet? Maybe I don't understand how it works, but I still see Dallas and Carolina picking ahead of the second NYR pick in mock drafts.... with all the top teams eliminated in the first round, shouldn't we have a pick in the teens now

The final 4 gets the last 4 picks of each round. Then those who didnt make the final 4 get placed by their end of season point total ....We would like to see CBJ Canes Avs and Stars all win this round

Well it's actually division winners that didn't make the conference finals in the 24-27 range. So it will be Preds at 24 then Caps 25 Flames 26 and Tampa at 27. Everyone else is slotted by point totals from 16-23.

Kakko with two goals against Canada one the empty netter. Showed off some of his one on one power and he's got lots. He was named player of the game for Finland. He wasn't dominating but he had some power moments and teases there is some off the charts power and one on one domination to his game. Incredible hands and hockey sense are a bonus. Think Jagr when he first came up. With the holding and stickwork rules the way they are the kid will be a monster. . Slow down son the Rangers don't want NJD's picking you.

Kakko gets a hatty versus Slovakia(?) ... This is great amping up the pressure on the NJDs..... Hughes is not looking shabby in his first foray playing with men. We will get a heckuva player next month.

If the NJD do take Kakko, can anybody see a scenario where we trade down and take Dach or Cozens? Would it make any sense, drafting a 6'3"-6'4" Center rather than a 5'11" Center? Especially if we can get a good player. Detroit has about $13 M cap space, not counting $18 M in LTIR. Anaheim probably not a good trade partner.

No. Double so when it is a two stud draft, and then a big drop. Draft one of the two studs...be happy.

I doubt it. There's a huge difference between 1-2 and the 3-4-5 tier. If there was a deal made there would have to be something significant in return, not just a second rounder or whatever. A 1-2 pick in this draft is literally a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence for this franchise.

US squad has overall been pretty disappointing. Most of these players though have been through 82+playoffs so maybe some fatigue there. Sweden is destroying Norway right now so maybe not much of an excuse.
