Terms set on their ELC, can't officially sign until their KHL contracts expire (May 1)

At time I wondered whether we'd ever see the day that Shestyorkin would sign, so I consider this great news

I'm happy to see that. Have had my doubts about McCaimbridge for awhile.

Post is reporting Shestyorkin has an out clause - that is, he has the option of returning to KHL if he is sent to Hartford.

Shestyorkin has been quoted as saying he would play in Hartford though, so it's possible this is a failsafe clause for him. If he feels like Hartford is best for him and he's adapting to NA ice, then he may very well just play in the AHL, conversely if he feels like he's getting jerked around or treated unfairly, he has an out option.

I think it's more a escape if he sees it as a long term stay in Hartford. Which everyone hopes is doubtful.

He doesn't have anything. May 1st is when things become official. We'll find out the facts, then.

In the event he does have the clause as reported, I'm not too worried. All it would mean is Georgiev has proven he is the new number 1, in which case who needs Shesty this year?

I think he fully understands and expects that he will may start the year in Hartford, and that he has to earn the ice time.... it'll be up to him. The pressure will be on, starting in prospect camp.

They'll get a look at him then. Then again in preseason.

If Shestyorkin is in Hartford and killing it and he deserves a look in NY, you have to move one of your goalies, either Georgiev goes down and Shesty comes up, or Hank needs to go on LTIR for something. Otherwise you not only lose a goaltender who's playing well (Shestyorkin) to the KHL AND you permanently damage the trust and the relationship and you risk him never coming back. He's been one of our top prospects for years and has been thought of as heir to the throne, so I believe he'll get his shot.

If we have 3 goaltenders playing well, that's a good problem to have.

The only wrench that could be thrown into this whole process right now is the as of yet unnamed coaching staff in Hartford. They are going to be Shestyorkin's daily contact with the organization if/when he's down there and the last thing we need is for them to overplay or underplay him or ride his ass for something stupid. If he feels like the staff in Hartford is being unfair to him, we're in trouble.

Any coach that would be unfair to Shestyorkin would be the wrong choice to coach Hartford. Any coach going in would be acutely aware of the Rangers prospects and the nurturing involved. Shestyorkin is going to get your basic bonus baby kid glove treatment with 90% of his interaction coming from Allaire in hartford or New York..
I'm a lot more worried about the Rangers doing something with Lundqvist who at this point has become a roadblock to both Shestyorkin and Georgiev assuming both are deserving of being on the Rangers out of camp. Georgiev proved he could handle a number 1 role this season and assuming his head is on straight should be good to go with confident teammates playing in front of him, next year. If Shestyorkin is half of what he's supposed to be he will push Georgiev for the number one role. I would not like to see the rangers lose Georgiev to appease Lundqvist.

Worst thing they can do is trade one of those kids to accommodate Henrik

As painful as it is to some, myself included. Hank needs to be traded or told to retire. I would hate to see him released. He's done. Georgiev is clearly better than him at this point and I'm sure Shesterkin will be as well.

I think everyone in management is aware of the issues involved but pro sports is not about coddling or favours owed and Gorton's obligated to put the best team on the ice he can. But in this case it's about the future also. Lindquist is on the way out. Two years left on his deal and done. Georhiev has proven good play and still is a bit of a unknown as far as ceiling, but has teased it's pretty high. I think they need to do something with Henrek this summer. If Shestorokin and Georgiev outplay him in camp then what.

Things are shaping up very nicely. I'm thinking one more whatever season, and then we are good to go again. I figure we'll make some moves this summer (maybe sign a player of two), and be a fringe playoff team next year (most likely come up a little short). Then in two years let the games begin. Exciting time with our young players close now to playing in the NHL and starting their careers.

Personally I would either look to trade up to 10 or so with a few picks, or look to add a RD with a pick or two and maybe Kreider. That's how I would approach it after we draft Kakko.

I agree 1 more rebuild type of a season if the young players turn into what many think they should. THN likes the Rangers future, not counting the picks this draft, they rate Rangers high. Also, Rangers are the YOUNGEST team in the league.

I would also do one more rebuild season, at this point we have too many questions on defense and goal still remains to be sorted out. I think we have a much better idea after next season. Unfortunately 2020 UFA class is not terribly exciting so unlikely we'd add a significant piece there. But if the kids continue along their development path, we may be looking for a more supplemental piece anyway.
