Yeah, don't think they'll get their money's worth out of this one. Also think it spells the end for Kreider

The Blueshirts signed star winger Artemi Panarin to a deal worth $11.6 million per season, The Post’s Larry Brooks reports, beating out the Islanders and Panthers.

I'm not sure on that one Toby, in trading Vesey that clears 4.55 Million so that's a start in covering the breadman donuts
Kreidar cap hit is only 4.65 Million

I admit I am shocked this went down. Once we made no moves this week, and the # kept going up I thought no way. The draw of the NYR strikes again. A little more than I wanted to pay, maybe 11.3 or so tops, but 11.6 isn't awful.

Now you have to figure Kreider is gone.

Well, it is what it is, he better be the Rangers' Kane player type, who always find a goal when you need it.

He has to be a 35+/80+ player. He cannot be a 20 goal, 70 pt scorer, that' would not be good.

I think you are setting a bar he will not reach. He is not a 30 goal guy I don't think. If he goes 25 +/-, but racks up the points, I'll be okay.

He'll be right there though. 27 goals is his lowest #, so I think he'll get close. Maybe it's 27/80, but in the ballpark.

FINALLY...the Rangers sign a free agent whose value is expected to stay high for most of the contract.

Some expect him to be great the next two seasons, good for the two after that, and reasonably good/okay the final three.

If they get a Cup in those prime years, the deal is worth it.

Artificially speeding up the rebuild. Typical impatient Rangers.

He will deliver now when it's not needed.
In two three years time when his best will be needed, he'll be on the decline already.

I do hope I'm wrong.

Yeah, we need to be a playoff team right now. Also this guy is 28 in October. Fair to say he'll good/in his prime for 5 years, ages 28-32. I don't think that is a stretch. Not 34 and 35, but good through 32 is very reasonable. That's what makes this worth it. Even if his 28 year old season is a bit up and down team wise, we still get 29, 30, 31, and 32 year old seasons where we should be at/near the top.

I think this will work both short term and long term. He will become a mentor type for the likes of Kravtsov's and Kakko's and will show them how to become prolific scorers in the league. Additionaly, the Russian ties will bond alot of the Rangers players going forward.

I am with you, seems to be a bit out of phase with where we are on the rebuild. MAy muck up the works if a bunch of these prospects are a hit.
He is a very nice player but whew boy mucho cash and term.... should be fun !

This has always been my concern with the pursuit of Panarin. Undeniably one of the game's best wingers, but not what we need right now. His "window" may be out of sync with the rest of the team.

Also consider that all these good young prospects we have, will be out of ELC in 3 years, and we'll have a ton of much bigger contracts to hand out and much less cap space to work with. Toronto has had to navigate this after giving Tavares $11m per; Leafs fans celebrated when that happened but they're having to do some maneuvering now to get by.

I can see Kreider gone by start of season.

Potential lines at this point, though I'm sure new things are still in the works.

Panarin Zibinijad Buchnevich
Chytyl Strome Kaako
Namestnikov Anderson Kravtsov
Lemieux Howden Fast

If Kreider remains, he steps in as second line wing and Chytyl moves to 3rd line center replacing Anderson, but I'd assume someone else (Strome or Namestnikov) gets moved and maybe Anderson stays in mix.

I don't buy the he doesn't mesh with the rebuild stuff. You want to say 11.6 mill on the cap could cause concerns in 2 or 3 years, okay, but the mesh with rebuild is off base. The guy is 28 in October. If you say prime until 32 that gives him 5 seasons. We still rebuilding in 5 years? Also rememeber we have some big deals off the books in 2 years, and the cap will go up. Shattenkirk, Smith, Staal, hank to name 4. So we have a ot of money coming off to balance it out.

Lastly, I have full faith in Gorton and JD. I trust them, and believe they have a sound plan.
