It was too bad he dropped off so quickly. He was a steady Ranger, emerging with those mid 2000 teams and a real find as an undrafted free agent. Was a good soldier, but time caught up with him quicker than he deserved and while the Rangers were right to part ways with him when they did, there were still plenty of contributions in his career on Broadway

I wonder how his career would have finished in New York playing for a guy like Trotz who doesn’t try to change every dman into Raphael Diaz, instead of just utilizing a players best attributes. Girardi epitomized the Rangers for many years, to bad he ran into Chewy.

A classic keep it simple defenseman. He had 788 games as a Ranger and he just wore out.

Girardi was a warrior on the ice. I hope that his career is viewed from when he was a first pair shut-down defenseman, not the player who sometimes struggled under the AV "system". A great Ranger who left everything he had on the ice.
