Caps with an uninspired effort tonight, are now only 1 point ahead of the Flyers. Philly has won 7 straight and are looking very good.

Caps will either come out desperate and fired up tomorrow night or perhaps they're slumping and off their game. Either way, The Rangers need a good start tomorrow and a hard forecheck. Caps are vulnerable in their own end of late and taking way too many penalties.

Not even sure they need to start fast, as much as they need to stay even or close and stay in the game without forcing it, Caps are not dominant and aren't necessarily playing with full confidence right now, so opportunity to get back in games, even if you fall behind

While I agree, I think at this point the Rangers need a break out, start to finish, solid win tonight. 3 straight losses has their confidence shaken. A complete game win coupled with some help on the scoreboard that I think they will definitely get tonight will get them back on track.

I think they should be back on track after last night. Kreider is a big loss, but not many teams can say they have two superstars like Panarin and Zibanejad. Especially teams the Rangers are battling. Last night was important, players feed off guys like Panarin and Zibanejad when they are rolling. If you don't have top end talent in the NHL your dead. The Rangers have some and its only going to get better when Shestorokin plays again.

Florida got a point, but Isles and Canes lost in regulation. Good night all around with a Rangers win.

Devils get the Blues tonight, which hopefully will be a rough game for NJ. Rangers get the Devils tomorrow.

Tomorrow is interesting, Rangers can possibly gain on 2 teams:
Canes at Isles
CBJ at Edmonton

Exciting times for sure...not sure who I want to win in Carolina v Isles...Canes have games in hand. Rangers have completed both series, so no help on that front....just not sure

When in doubt, root against the Isles.

Rangers have 15 games remaining, a possible 30 points available. How many do they get and will it be enough?

I think they get 20 points and that will get them a 2nd WC spot. Baked into that prediction is the upcoming western road trip where I think they lose to Dallas and Colorado but beat Arizona. They'll also probably lose to Tampa, Philly and one of the three they have with the Pens.

Tough road, but ....

Isles lose in OT, which kinda sucks. Both teams get a point, Canes get 2.

Rangers went 7 - 1 combined against these two teams. They both suck and neither should make the playoffs. I've got much more respect for CBJ, hanging in there despite catastrophic injuries. NYR and CBJ should get the consolation playoff spots.

Gotta take this playoff “race” for what it is and that’s pretty much unexpected by most everybody. Being where they are right now at this point in the season is a win already. They have exceeded expectations and are playing on house money from here on in. So many positives this season and so much to look forward to next season. And still a punchers chance to get in the playoffs although every loss makes it that much harder. I don’t care what happens down the stretch as long as they play with heart and balls. If they do, the rest will look after itself.

After the Rangers stinker against the devils.....

Carolina wins to go 3 points up with a game in hand. Bluejackets win to go up 5 points while playing 2 more games than the Rangers.

Side note: If Bluejackets make the playoffs Torts should win coach of the year

A lot better position than where they were a month ago. It’s not a impossible task by any means. Buuuut can’t afford many more slip ups.

Panthers beat the Blues in St. Louis last night.

Rangers are slipping down as the other 4 teams gain points in tough spots. CBJ keeps getting big points despite their depleted lineup. Yes, Torts is definitely a Coach of the Year candidate.

Tonight the Canes get the Red Wings and a likely 2 points, while the Isles are in Vancouver. Rangers will need at least 3 points on this 3 game road trip to stay within shouting distance. Tough games on the road back to back, Dallas and Colorado.

They aren't making it dude. Honestly, who cares. All I care about is Kakko getting to 20 g 50 points next year. Chytil getting to 20-20. Gauthier starting to get some offense. Howden moving towards 35 points. TDA moving to wing where I think he could be an all-star and Lundkvist giving us another Fox type.

Even with the win streak they've realistically been on the outside looking in. The NHL point standings are artificially inflated to give a sense of parity, but making meaningful gains after the halfway point of the season is incredibly difficult.

The Rangers are also have one of the hardest schedules to finish the season based on standings, so there's that too....at any rate, they still have a chance, and winning will increase their chances
