If you had any hope for our most recent undrafted college signings (Khodorenko, Rueschhoff and Richards), you should read this article by Brooks (link below). It basically states that out of 24 Ranger signings of undrafted college players since 1970, just a small percentage go on to have significant roles in the NHL. 10 never made it, one played one game, 10 made it as either backup goalies, 4th liners, or 3rd pair d-men, and just three went on to have decent careers (Pavelich, Talbot, and Pionk). That's 3 out of 24. Slim pickings.

Are we talking about undrafted college players, or, Rangers 1st round draft picks? Seems to be about the same percentages......

Well, if you were to take the equivalent of a modern day 4th round pick (picks 94-124) then the results would be:

75 Picks since 1970 - 31 appeared in NHL. Of the 29 that are not still in the NHL, 13 appeared in 164+ games (or two full seasons). The numbers aren't that far off what Brooks compiled for the College signings, so my thought would be that a college signing is equivalent to a mid to latter 4th round pick.
