Announced today by the league, though there's a lot of work to do in the next 29 days to make that work

Having a tough time getting hyped up about this. Although I suppose if the Rangers have a little success, a guy will get swept up in it. Getting my second knee replacement June 22 so will at least have that to watch convalescing.

I am interested in seeing Zib continued assent to one of the best players in the league.

I'd like to see him paired with Panarin more. The two of them together on the ice is magical. It's a good reason why our PP has been so good. I know Quinn wants to even out the lines, but having these two together in key situations has panned out well.

When the season ended I think he was right there with the best. He was on a roll with no signs of a letup. What a fabulous future trade by Gorton. The Rangers obviously believed in his upside although forecasting this type of success would have earned somebody in the organization a raise.

Justin Trudeau paves way for Canada to host NHL return;
"Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has opened the door for the NHL to operate one of its playoff hub cities in Canada.
“We have indicated that we are comfortable with moving forward on an NHL hub in one of the three Canadian cities that are asking for it,” Trudeau said. “Obviously the decision has to be made by the NHL and the cities and the provinces in the jurisdiction, but Canada is open to it as long as it is OK’d by the local health authorities.”

NHL sets Stanley Cup playoffs date, strict coronavirus guidelines;

The Post has learned that the Stanley Cup tournament’s qualifying rounds are scheduled to begin on July 30 in hub cities that will be selected “within the next week or so,”

Training camp, that had been previously scheduled to commence on July 10, will last approximately two weeks, with clubs scheduled to travel to their respective assigned location on either July 23 or 24. Teams will play one exhibition match before going into the best-of-five qualifiers and the top-four seeding round-robins

Training camp rosters will be set at 30 skaters and an unlimited number of goaltenders. Rosters for the tournament will be comprised of 28 skaters plus an unlimited number of netminders. Players on IR will not count against the limit.

According to the directive, testing for the coronavirus will be done “every other day for all people entering the facility.” It is unclear at this point whether the media will be granted access.

As per the NHL on Friday, 11 players have tested positive for COVID-19 since June 8. The Lightning temporarily closed its practice facility after three players and an additional number of support personnel tested positive. It is believed that four players skating as part of a 12-man group in Arizona, though not at the Coyotes’ facility, tested positive and are now in quarantine-mode.

Vancouver now a frontrunner to be NHL hub city: reports
Rob Williams Jun 20 2020, 2:12 pm

The NHL appears to be leaning towards picking Vancouver as one of its hub cities, according to multiple new reports today.
Vancouver’s bid has “picked up steam” according to Sportsnet 650’s Satiar Shah, which was supported by Irfaan Gaffar and The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta. CTV’s Jason Pires appears to be hearing much of the same, saying “lots of signs now pointing to Vancouver.”

Igor Shesterkin expected to practice at Rangers’ facility this week

If cleared to play after getting tested for COVID-19 under the NHL’s ‘Return-to-Play’ protocol, Shesterkin is expected to be back on the ice at the Rangers’ practice facility in Tarrytown sometime this week.

Shesterkin remained in Florida and was last seen practicing at Pines Ice Arena in Pembroke Pines, Fla., on June 11 in a series of videos posted to Instagram.

The 24-year-old Russian netminder was able to take some shots from Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin and retired Rangers defenseman Darius Kasparaitis. Other players at the informal workout included Avalanche defenseman Nikita Zadorov and Panthers winger Evgenii Dadonov.

Pavel Buchnevich also returned to New York recently and is undergoing protocol before he, too, is expected to be back on the ice later this week. Newsday reported Monday that rookie winger Kaapo Kakko and goalie Alexandar Georgiev are planning to travel from Finland to New York on Friday.

Rangers that have been in the New York area and regularly participating in small-group workouts include Artemi Panarin, Chris Kreider, Brendan Smith, Brendan Lemieux, Marc Staal, Adam Fox and Philip Di Giuseppe.

New York was ‘explored’ during narrowing NHL hub city search

Las Vegas has been rumored to be one of the top considerations for a hub city.

Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto are the remaining cities under consideration as of Tuesday afternoon, but there is still no official date for when Phase 4 will begin. NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told The Post’s Larry Brooks that “New York was explored,” but creating and maintaining a “bubble” was likely unattainable.

If Vancouver, Edmonton, Chicago and Los Angeles are still being considered as the second hub city for the Western Conference, that would complicate the league’s hope to stay away from giving teams a home-ice advantage. Should Vegas be selected as a hub city, the only Canadian city that’s being considered by the league that would make sense is Toronto.

news of the day..... all I can say is ..... Go , Please GO !

Devils interview Rangers’ Lindy Ruff for head coaching job
Ruff, whose areas of specific responsibility are the defense and penalty kill, is in his third year with the Blueshirts. It is unclear whether the Devils would have permission to hire the 59-year-old coach before the Rangers either win the Stanley Cup or are eliminated in the planned summer tournament for which New Jersey did not qualify.

The Rangers have struggled on the defensive end of things (last in the NHL in expected five-on-five goals-against per 60 minutes) over and on the penalty kill (ranked 23d this year and over the last three years) throughout Ruff’s tenure but young defensemen Adam Fox, Ryan Lindgren and Tony DeAngelo have improved under his tutelage.

Ruff was an NHL head coach for 19 seasons (Buffalo 15 years and Dallas for four) before joining then head coach Alain Vigneault’s staff in 2017-18. He is sixth in career victories (736) and seventh in games coached (1,493).

Igor Shesterkin joined the Rangers’ small-group workout at the club’s training facility for the first time on Wednesday. Pavel Buchnevich and Ryan Lindgren have reported but are awaiting the results of their COVID-19 tests before they are cleared to join their teammates on the ice.

Rangers prospect Nils Lundkvist signs deal with Swedish team

So Nils Lundkvist, the righty defenseman selected 28th-overall in the 2018 entry draft, won’t be available to the Rangers until either after Lulea ends its season in the Swedish League or the 2021 World Championships are completed if the 19-year-old is reserved for Team Sweden’s roster.

Lundkvist had been expected to line up fourth on the Blueshirts’ depth chart behind Jacob Trouba, Adam Fox and Tony DeAngelo, assuming that DeAngelo — who will be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights this offseason — is not dealt.

there really is a few things to talk about here and one week from tomorrow it all is slated to begin a new.......

Nothing has been made official by the league, but there was an interim agreement Tuesday night between the NHL and NHLPA to extend expiring contracts so that both sides could continue to negotiate on the “Return to Play” plan and an extension of the collective bargaining agreement. Otherwise, eligible players would’ve become free agents Wednesday. Players are also being paid their July 1 signing bonuses, The Post has learned.

In the proposed agreement, players are permitted to opt out of the summer playoffs. Additionally, players on expiring contracts who choose not to participate in the playoff tournament will be allowed to sign with another league later this month.

The Post confirmed Wednesday that, barring any last-minute complications, the two NHL hub cities will be Toronto and Edmonton. An NHL team executive confirmed he had heard the two Canadian cities will be presented to the players association for a vote within the “Return to Play” agreement. Sources have indicated the Rangers and Islanders would go to Toronto.

Once negotiations on the agreement are finalized, NHLPA membership could be voting on everything by Friday or Saturday, according to TSN.

The plans first cracks begin to show. I see the plan crumbling soon IMO

NHL to delay start of formal training camps as negotiations continue

Teams have been advised by the league that Phase 3 — the start of formal training camp for the 24 clubs headed to the tournament — has been pushed back until at least July 13, according to The Post’s Larry Brooks, after it had been tentatively scheduled for July 10.

NHL, NHLPA agree on protocols to resume play and target start date

The NHL and NHL Players Association finalized an agreement on official protocols for Phase 3 and 4 of the “Return to Play” plan for the 2019-20 season, but continue to work through details for a memorandum of understanding for a collective bargaining agreement extension, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told The Associated Press.

According to TSN, the NHL is targeting July 26 for teams to report to their respective hub cities and Aug. 1 for the official start of the 24-team playoff tournament. The Post confirmed last week that Phase 4 will be hosted by Toronto and Edmonton

and then there's this..... ? Wait... What ?

The NHL announced last week that a total of 26 players have tested positive for COVID-19 since the voluntary workouts began. In addition, the league said it was aware of 11 other players who tested positive outside of the voluntary workout protocol.

The latest slew of coronavirus cases in the NHL surfaced this past weekend when multiple St. Louis Blues players tested positive and had to cancel their team workouts this past weekend, according to several reports Friday. Practices are expected to resume Monday.
