I Can’t ever remember a free agency year where the Rangers are likely to do very little. Unless of course DeAngelo or Strome have priced themselves off the Rangers.

Tyler Johnson placed on waivers. Why unless no trades out there.

He has a full No Trade if I recall correctly

$5M per year for three more years...is 30 and had 31 points in 65 games last year 5-8, 183lb...scored more than 50 points just once, back in 2014-15...has 29 goals twice, include two seasons ago

But he did agree to possible trades, I’m not sure what effect waiving him has on their cap but it must or why?

Yeah, just read he gave a list of 7-8 teams...but they couldn't get a deal done.

In terms of Cap savings if they buried his contract, they'd get $1.075M

I guess for a team up against it every little bit helps. Might be a guy that gets the Rangers attention if he becomes a free agent.

They just waived him, not for buy-out purposes so he won't be a free agent until he's 34...unless he gets bought out before that

It’s pretty much a given if he and his contract doesn’t get claimed he will get bought out.

Not certain, but one report I read said specifically that it was on regular waivers, not on conditional waivers for purpose of buy-out. I suspect, but do not know, they'd have to put him through waivers again, my guess is that with regular waivers you are just hoping someone claims him, whereas with conditional waivers you know the team is going to buy them out

If your going to get rid of him if that’s the plan I think you would be soundly critiqued if you didn’t run him through regular waivers first, and if not claimed I guess it’s conditional waivers after. He’s probably the first of a few we might see over th3 next few days as teams try to clear cap room.

Rooney and Blackwell both suck. It has to be for the Pack or to create competition for young guys.

He was done when Pitt signed him. He might make Staal look good.

Borowiecki signs with Nashville for the money the Rangers might waste on Johnson. 2 years at $2 mill. Tough kid would have give the D some bite. Short term easy to move when the young guys get here.

The Rangers don't seem to be that kind of marketing outfit, so don't expect it to play out that way rob. As for who they did sign, I'm guessing Rooney and maybe Blackwell get to compete for the 13th forward spot. Rooney might push Howden for the fourth spot, and Blackwell perhaps too. Think Brodzinski probably, and Greco for sure are AHL roster players. On defense I'm guessing Johnson will be given plenty of opportunity, Bitetto looked as the depth defenseman...kind of like the Steve Kampfer of 2020-21.

Kinkaid is heading to Hartford of course.

A lot of names on the move, but nothing big that stands out or jumps at you. Some names way over paid. Whatever. Rangers have a diff plan/approach now...

Gallagher re-ups with the Canadiens for 6 years at $6.5 million per. Looking at this and some other Montreal signings leaves me scratching my head. Petry at $6.25 for 4 years? Josh Anderson at $5.5 for 7 years? Wow!
