Nice shut out for Geogiev. It is always better to get out to a lead. This was a different Rangers team. Does Tony D stay in the press box??

Rangers got a ton of potential. They need a little help on D. If DeAngelo plays up to his last years offence and ups his defence a notch, and they can replace Johnson at some point in time,The rest will do their part. and Smith can play like he did as last season was ending, they should be ok. Especially if Miller gets solid. Up front they got the horses, it’s just a matter of Howden, Lafrenierre, Kakko, Gautier and Chytil becoming contributors and not just passengers. It’s really all in Quinn’s coaching. The pieces are there but for a couple.

Do tell who do they need, and who do they get rid of?

Two games in and the roller coaster has begun. Horrible on Thursday, world-beaters on Saturday.

This will likely be the pattern for the first 20 games or so. This is a ridiculously young team with a lot of learning and growing to do. Hopefully by game 25 they will settle in and their talent will begin to come into play more and more. This is not the Glen Sather veteran/mercenary free agent collective. This is a rebuild in full force, that has just started to take shape. I'm gonna sit back and enjoy watching them stumble, grow, and then rise up into a formidable team that will be a contender for a number of years.

I don't know who they need or who to get rid of at the moment, but I do know you need more of those north south players in the playoffs.

I'm referring to your last sentence in your comment, "they have the pieces except for a few" I'm saying the few should be some straight ahead hard players.

If Cazikas, Clutterfuk and Martin are the fourth line then Johnson who’s useless is on the third line. I hear lots say add toughness for the playoffs but I think it’s more a matter of working with what you have. The Rangers top three lines are loaded with talent. They need to be cognizant of playing the right way as Quinn likes to say. Which includes getting their nose dirty going to the tough areas, taking hits to make plays. I think any combination of Rooney, De Giuseppe, Howden, and Lemieux can go head to head with any fourth line in the league. More important than going out and getting North South players, is creating the mindset and making sure your guys are doing that.

On another note Smith had a good night. He’s well suited for a third pair role that can move up the lineup for short periods of time as in a couple games in a row then back to third pair. He teases with his game and the expectations get ramped up when he gets moved up the lineup, and it usually ends in failure, if it’s for to long. Then he’s in the doghouse and usually sitting. Let him stick on the third pair keep the expectations there and he fills that physical 3rd pair banger that can kill some penalties have a young guy like Millers back. Smith did a nice job last night.

DeAngelo is not long for this team. The Rangers because they will be a top heavy team with salary always will need talented, cheap prospects in the pipeline. I think they will try to get a first rounder and a role playing forward prospect for him. You can't pay everybody. I've said for over a year they should move him to wing, let him play the point on the PP.

Probably if his attitude keeps rearing its head, but they need him now until someone else is ready. Especially on the powerplay which has the talent to be special.
