Another young goaltender potentially available: Alexandar Georgiev. Teams who have inquired with new Rangers GM Chris Drury believe the ask to be a first-round pick as part of any trade opportunity on Georgiev, who will still be under team control as an RFA once the final year of his deal ($2.425 million) expires next summer. There is no urgency or rush for the Rangers. It’s a luxury move for Drury as Igor Shesterkin is exempt from the Expansion Draft.

If they want a first they will have to make it a package. Most likely Jones who has no future here because of his small size. One small defenseman is enough. Two is pushing it. Lundkvist is a lot better than Jones.

Assuming Lundqvist makes the team....they would then have 2 “small” defensemen as both guys that you mentioned are basically the same size as Adam Fox. As far as Georgiev, if some team is willing to give up a 1st for him, take it. If not, keep him. Drury shouldn’t rush this. Just my opinion.

Exactly. Lundkvist and Fox are both extremely talented but both are small. Two guys like that is really pushing it. Size on defense is a huge deal in the playoffs. Or at least be 6'0 and play big like Lindgren. Ideally, I'd love for Schneider to make the team, draft another right handed defenseman with size and toughness and move Trouba when his idiotic NMC clause turns to a limited no trade clause. Use Lundkvist in a deal for a center. While I believe Lundkvist has a lot of value around the league, I think if he played one year in the NHL and impressed, his value would go through the roof.

Can you win a cup with this defense. I think so but we'll see. Miller and Schneider can be a shutdown first pair. Or Robertson-Schneider. They just need experience.

Lindgen-Fox
Miller-Schneider
Robertson-Lundkvist

Personally, I don't love Fox on the PP. His shot is not good. Lundkvist has a rocket. You could limit Lundkvist's minutes at even strength and play him on the PP.

For a Norris trophy winner Fox still has question marks. Power play went from 7th the year before with DeAngelo to 15th this year with Fox. For whatever reason Zibanejad’s lethal blasting off the half circle ceased to exist. Fox is not a big man and he’s going to have a bullseye on his back next year, teams are going to target him and we will see how he does. It’s a lot tougher to win it the second time fighting through the other teams increased awareness of who you are and what you do on the ice. He needs to spend some time this summer concentrating on improving his shot. Needs to bulk up a bit more.
Lunqvist is a nice piece to have in the hopper although he will probably go to Hartford and by Christmas will force the Rangers to have to promote him. He’s not a guy you trade until you know for sure what his ceiling is. His pedigree has future Norris trophy contender/winner stamped all over it. It’s incredible the Rangers defence shaping up, any six from Lindgren, Fox, Trouba, Miller, Lunqvist, Schneider, Robertson and you just might have best Ranger defense ever.
The important thing is let it play out a bit.

Perhaps Panarin missing all that time and Zibanejad being stone cold for the first half might have something to do with it

Zib did also have covid hangover til mid season and by that time Quinn had moved him to high slot man. But he never did seem to have that synergy he had with DeAngelo.

As it is Fox finished second in the league with 23 PP points, so I’m thinking the team slide had more to do with the guys up front than a drop off from DeAmgelo to Fox.

I think that answer will come next season.

I’m thinking their slide on the PP was due to Zibanejad’s slow start & Panarin’s absence. As far as Fox....he’ll be just fine....he’s already playing top 4 minutes so I’m not sure how much more exposed he will be. The guy finished 4th in Calder voting in his first season, so it’s not like he was some unknown out there. Trouba had a better season & looks more comfortable out there. Lindgren is fine. Miller is the question mark....can he repeat or even build off of a solid rookie season? Assuming Lundquist makes the team....who is our 6th & 7th? I’m guessing they bring in a veteran FA in the off season. Is Hajek salvageable? Is Reunanen ready? Are any of the other kids ready? Still questions on D but they have a very solid foundation & plenty of prospects in the pipeline.

This season is going to be a lot different for Fox. Finishing fourth in the Calder voting is not even a blip in the recognition of a player teams need to game plan around. He will face game plans with a emphasis on neutralizing him. He’s going to see a lot of meat in his corner. The guy I feel sorry for is Lindgren who for as hard as he plays isn’t suited to jump into every fracas teams start with Fox. Maybe Beuk can still play.

New York has been seeking a suitor for goaltender Alexandar Georgiev. The ask is believed to be a first-round pick. It’s unlikely Georgiev, who is also seeking a fresh start, will fetch that price.

Maybe Carolina will. Just gave up their young goalie who had a .932 save percentage with a 1.9gaa because they didn't want to give him $3 million. But now they have UFA Bernier to go along with their 2 other UFA mediocre goalies. Retain half of George's salary and you may get 2 picks from him. As long as they can save a buck.

Scoop: Sources say Georgiev placed a trade request with the Rangers a while back, hoping to break out from behind Igor Shesterkin. The Rangers have sought a first-round pick for him. But that won’t be happening – not after the return for Alex Nedeljkovic set the market price. And not if teams do their homework on Georgiev, who wasn’t exactly known as a favorite teammate on Broadway.

Georgiev and one of the thirds for Nedeljkovic might have looked good.
