Rooney is a UFA. Thank God. First thing they need to do is get rid of Georgiev to free some money up. Then same with Nemeth. The only you can dump that asswipe is by attaching a prospect like Jones with him and hope you can bring back a second rounder. Which seems reasonable. Next you try to package Lundkvist with Tinordi and Hunt. You can go for a first rounder in next years draft but I would target a player like Crouse. He would add size and toughness for the playoffs and he can score some as well. Let's face it. Arizona blows and is in a total rebuild. The may not want to eat both Hunt and Tinordi. They may want something like Lundkvist and Hajek, Hunt for Crouse and a second. Or say Lundkvist, Georgiev and Hunt for Crouse and a couple of second round picks. There is a deal there to be made somehow.

Once you get rid of Georgiev, Nemeth, Hajek and either Hunt or Tinordi or both, you have more money to sign guys with. I never understood why Hajek didn't play. He might have one terrible game out of every 4 or 5 he plays but he's usually solid in his others. He's gotten screwed over by the Rangers.

The Rangers have a conundrum on left wing. With Panarin, Kreider and Lafreniere it just doesn't work. Lafreniere has had multiple opportunities on right wing, and that's not looking like a long term solution. The kid needs top two minutes and power play time, he's earned it with a pleasantly eye opening playoff performance displaying more grit and grind than Kreider and Panarin combined. With the top two forward prospects Brennan Othmann and Will Cuylee more good problems down the road fitting them in. There is no way around it but Panarin and his albatross contract might have to go. And then maybe the Rangers end up with something like this to start.

Kreider Zibanejad Kakko

Lafreniere Kadri Kravstov

Goodrow Chytil Blais

Motte Rooney Reaves or a replacement.

That should keep them in the playoffs mix and get a read on Lafreniere, Kakko and Kravstovs abilities to compete as top six guys come playoff time.

I've heard reports that Kadri could earn as much as $8M a year....don't think he's coming to New York

To bad he might bring the most to the Rangers in terms of intangibles as a second line center. To play devils advocate Kadri at $8 mill or Panarin at his $11 mill and change?

Brooks with a very plausible way for the Rangers to take a run at any free agent. Working Nemeth into it somehow would be a grand slam.

Kadri is kind of the poster child for available centers. An example in Brooks article of what could be done.Everyone of them has one form of warts or another. Be interesting to see what Drury does.
