So it appears the Rangers and Blackhawks are heading to a trade for Kane. Given the most likely path to freeing up money, we should see Jake Leschyshyn on waivers today, which would allow for a trade on March 3rd.
Multiple reports suggest that the Blackhawks have come down on their asking price, with Kane said to have pushed hard for a move to New York.

Eddie Giacomin claimed off of waivers |
With Emile Francis looking to retool the Rangers, he placed veteran netminder and fan favorite Eddie Giacomin on waivers, where he was quickly claimed by the Detroit Red Wings. Two days later he made his return to MSG where the Rangers found themselves in the unusual position of being booed while Giacomin was cheered on each save he would make. Giacomin would end backstopping his new team to a 6-4 win, and would continue to play parts of the next three seasons with the Red Wings. |
