► RUMOR MILL
|
Saturday - August 6th
Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports that the Rangers are looking to bring back former forward Jimmy Vesey on a one-year league minimum deal. Vesey notably signed as a UFA after declining offers from Nashville and Buffalo at the conclusion of his college career, joining the Rangers for a three years before being traded to Buffalo.

Mike Richter's number retired |
If you were to distill Mike Richter down to a single moment, it could very well be his save on a penalty shot by Vancouver's Pavel Bure in Game 4 of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals. The Pennsylvania born netminder was much more than that of course. His 42 wins in the 1993-94 Cup season remain a franchise record, and his 666 games and 301 wins are only surpassed by Henrik Lundqvist.
Richter's latter career was plagued by injury, suffering a series of concussions that ultimately forced his retiremend at the end of the 2002-03 season. At the time of his ceremony, he was just the third Ranger to have their number retired, joining fellow netminder Eddie Giacomin along with forward Rod Gilbert. |
