Buyers or Sellers at March 7th Deadline?

With the trade deadline close to a week away, what should the Rangers do? In order to make the playoffs, they will probably need 94 points. Currently at 62 points with 24 games to play, they will need to go 16-8 to hit 94 points. This question may have been answered last night with Fox and K Miller leaving the game with injuries that could be serious. What would you do?

I would sell. They can't get the guys to waive NTC'c/NMC's that would make a difference any way. But they won't

If they need me to bleed, then I'll bleed for my team

Probably (in hindsight) should've had a 3rd option...hockey trades only, that's to say taking on only players who have term, or adding prospects/picks.

Obviously now it looks like Drury is moving all the available UFAs (two gone already, and a third sitting to ultimately be moved).  Will be interesting though if anyone else gets moved beyond that.  Kreider is the most likely, and forward is probably easier to deal with than defense, where the Rangers are basically playing their only healthy six NHL level d-men.

Jack Hughes is now out for the remainder of the regular season. Hamilton left last night's game and didn't return. Rangers are 6 points behind the Devils with 2 games in hand.

While it's possible the NYR could catch the Devils, the team isn't really good enough, and certainly doesn't have enough depth. To contest with the best in the East IMO.

Berard and Othmann I don't think are ready, certainly not Othmann...and having Brodzinski in your line-up means there's no depth behind him.  Parssinen too has work to do to show he's worth more time.

So yeah, while catching the Devils is possible (and amusing), I don't think it changes the calculations.  more work to do in the off-season.

Devils are catchable.

Watching last nights game, DeHaan needs to go. Scary back there and as games tighten up he will be less and less useful. A guy who has made a career out of being a bottom 10% NHL dman. Watching Washington I see them having a big thud if Ovechkin tops Wayne's goal scoring record this season. That chase is providing a ton of energy to them. Human nature to have a potentially big dip in play after achieving a monumental record like that.
If the Rangers persevere and make the playoffs they will have some mojo with a team with a lot of different parts, notably young parts. They just might be a handful for a round or two.

Finally Kreider was not even remotely missed last night. And as mentioned in a news article trading he and Smith to teams with this years dreams won’t bring back immediate help to the Rangers, only futures and possibly a replacement for DeHaan. But that's ok. Drury should be able to flip SOME not all of the trade returns for immediate help.

Well, he has been practicing for the team for a week or more, and this is the first road trip, but the relationship is apparently broken between him and the NYR per Mercogliano on his podcast

Disappointed  they didn’t get him out of here. But if it’s this summer that’s good as long as he’s not back next year. I didn’t like his game when he was scoring. There was no difference in his effort then and now. But he got a pass from scrutiny because he was scoring. His line mates hard work always setting him up for the tapins. He was a dog then just like he is now. Also would far rather have Cuylle net front on the PP and playing in the top six. Laviolette can’t help himself using Kreider even when he hasn’t broke a sweat. Sucks they didn’t get rid of him. A deserving kid on the third or fourth line is going back to Hartford when he should be finishing the year with the Rangers. Based on Laviolette’s preference for older players he bumps Cuylle who bumps a Bérard, Othmann which is a shame.

I have a suspicion Brady Thachuk is going to demand a trade this summer. Ottawa stupidly traded his buddy Josh Norris. And  fans are booing the USA anthem and he doesn’t like that. I’m a Canadian and I don’t like that shit either. And I hope he does demand his way out of there. Because the Rangers better be front and Center.

That could only happen in a scenario like the Rick Nash deal where he goes to management and says he wants to be traded but only to one team.... but all of those guys have to go. K Miller is an absolute moron and Laf unfortunately is back to being a bust. He showed some promise for a bit
