Fox in my humble opinion can be added to a list of players the Rangers should move if they can. The list includes Miller who Drury clearly thinks is the second coming of Mark Messier, and not. Fox is small, avoids most contact like the plague and limits Ranger Powerplay options by never shooting, and even if he does it’s a pretty average shot velocity at best.
But how do you trade your ONLY power play point man without getting one back in the trade or another trade. You can’t and what team in their right mind is trading a bigger stronger point man for Fox? No one. The only win here is a Fox being P.K. Subban traded for a Shea Weber. And good luck with that. Fox is in that over hyped group of players that won’t bring a trade value back as high as his perceived media value. He will only bring back a value for what he is, small, weak, and only does things if there is an easy way. Rangers are screwed with Fox, who “cough cough” builds their d around him?

Fox is a top 10 defender with insane offensive abilities. There are only a handful of guys who can do what he does. The Rangers have him, in his prime , for the next 3 seasons after this one on a contract that matches Hughes/Makar/McAvoy. Teams would be lining up if he was on the trade block. Unfortunately, they would probably get back a couple of #1 draft picks and some ok talent to fill the hole on D which would mean even less of a playoff shot for this season.

Now, if you think the Rangers should blowup this roster despite having a top goalie and dman, both in their prime, that is a different conversation.

While Fox has skills and talent, he severely lacks the toughness required to compete for a cup...If you look at the Panthers and the Lightning they have 0 pussies on their teams...Certainly not on D. I would dump him and his cap hit in a heartbeat. Like it or not Fox's toughness and durability are an issue.

Fox has to many warts to be the lead dog on a team's defense to win a cup. Now if he was a number 4 dman and the PP guy maybe. But he still needs to change his game and shoot more. Opposing teams are playing the pass. With Panarin on the point now as reported, it could get exciting defensively but you know he's going to be shooting.
