After 46 games I have concluded Sullivan got lucky with two cups and a Pittsburgh team that was already built with zero input from him.
Rangers have zero team cohesion and in a constant state of scramble. He can’t carry Gallant or Laviolette’s whistle.
Gallant barely coached and Lav ran his useless man to man d on a team that did not have the ability to play man to man d. If the Rangers played Sullivan's d system 2 years ago they would have had a better chance at the Cup. Blaming Sullivan for the lack of scoring while missing Fox and a healthy Miller on an already offensively challenged Rangerss after 46 games just silly.
Gallant barely coached but he won. 99 games in 2 seasons. Lost in round 3 and 1. Laviolette’s useless man on man d won. 94 games. Easily argued both better than Chris’s boy.
And I don’t see anywhere that I blamed Sullivan for lack of scoring. I blame him for zero team cohesion, and being in a constant state of scramble. Which usually results in can’t score. His problem is pretty much everything not just scoring.

They both had better and younger talent than Sullivan. The Rangers still here are 2-4 years older.
If either Gallant or Lav had figured out how not to be near last in the NHL in giving up high quality chances through their Rangers seasons there might have been a Cup. Gallant was to lazy to figure it out and Lav was too dumb to change his d system.
They both lived off special teams and high quality goaltending. They had no answers for figuring out the 5v5 problems. We all watched both leave the #1 pp unit out there even after the magic had dried up. We watched them play keystone kops in their own end under both Gallant and Lav. Both these guys never figured out decent breakouts.
Where you happy watching Gallant NEVER match lines? That alone should have been the reason to dump him.
In the Tampa series game 6 Gallant decides to scratch Kakko for Dryden Hunt who had not played since the first series. Losing to the Devils after being up 2-0 after the first 2 games where in NJ. Horrible.
Gallant had the horses and never figured out how to use them. Lav also had what he needed and never fixed the d issues or the 5 v 5 issues.
At least what Sullivan is doing in the d end is a start. The Rangers were a mess before Sullivan got here. It is hard to blame him for the current situation.

People have a lot of complaints about two coaches who got to round three. Its obvious the Rangers lost to better teams in both round three's. Saying a coach like Sullivan with his track record at this stage is better than the previous two is nuts. Sullivan and his system, gives up a lot of goals, and can't score. Don't you think its a little odd every Rangers offense has gone in the tank? Say what you want about his improved defensive system but reality is the Rangers are on track to allow more goals against this year than the previous 4 seasons. Were Gallant and Laviolette perfect no. Rangers got out of them what they could and moved on. But to the wrong guy who again right time right place his first two seasons in Pitt with basically nothing for the next EIGHT seasons. And this is the guy Dolan is babbling about changing the culture into a winning one. Not happening. If he wasn't Drurys buddy boy he wouldn't even be here.
Say what you want about coaches, the bottom line is the talent on this team is shyte. The top 6 is shyte. Look at the team’s minus leaders. The top 6 are the team’s top 6. And as much as I like Cuylle, he’s not a top 6 player. Panarin is always our scoring leader, but hurts the team more with his turnovers. ZiB, Miller and Trocheck are over the hill and can’t compete against the other team’s younger top lines. Lafreniere just plain sucks.
