Not a huge savings but need to clean up the cap situation as much as possible.

I don't know if anyone will claim him at his hit but we'll see. I can't think of a scenario that anybody would want him when they know the NYR will have to buy him out and then they can get him for pennies on the dollar or league minimum. I guess his veteran gritty playoff reputation is only because he played on teams with other veteran gritty playoff types.

@ $875/yr he would be a good 4th liner on a good team. He was a good dud(not a mispel)

Big savings the first 2 years and pray the stupid cap keeps going up.

NHL is too dumb to figure out what the NBA is doing. The NBA cap is $141million vs the NHL cap of $88 million for the 2024-2025 season. If the NBA can afford a $141million cap they must be doing something right. 31 years of Gary Bettman gets you nowhere near the NBA number.

NHL is nowhere near as popular as the NBA.

It's hard to believe that he actually was a major player in the formation of the NBA cap.  Since he came to NHL, he's tried to make NHL a mirror of NBA -- yet his first big job was to strangle the league with a hard cap.

And an NBA team has 5 fewer players and the top NBA player makes like 4+ times the amount of the highest paid NHL player. Maybe NHL players could become more popular if they commit more crimes.... That seems to be working a lot these days....

Goodrow was a good soldier, fought for teammates that wouldn’t fight to save their lives. Not his fault Drury signed him knowing he was a fourth liner on a good team. I didn’t expect him back even though he is not the Rangers biggest problem .

"If the Sharks don't claim Goodrow, the Rangers will have between 48 hours following the end of the Stanley Cup Final and June 30th to cut the 31-year-old."

Does this mean they can just let him go rather than buy him out?

All the teams (i.e. owners) make money now which is the sole reason Bettman was hired in the first place. The cap is the wrong metric. Look at franchise values.

The NHL cap and all its limits are a joke at this point.

2005 salary cap was $39 million. The average NHL team value was about $163million.

2024 salary cap was $83.5 million. The average NHL team value was about $1.31 Billion.

The salary cap has increased 2.14 times and the team value has increased 8 times.

Are we to believe that all the cap metrics have lead to a 2 times increase in the salary cap while the team values have increased 8 times?

There is a huge range in teams valuations, revenue and costs, but the cap is the same for all. If you look how the NBA cap has provisions for keeping homegrown talent and veteran exemptions, and the monetary success that has led to an average NBA team value of $4billion, you would think the NHL owners might want to adjust what they are doing.

NHL still stuck in cost control methods while the NBA is always looking to drive revenue growth.

I find it all laughable because Buttface supposedly wanted to model the NHL after the NBA and has promptly done everything to ensure that they are nothing alike.  Go figure!!!
