Vancouver Canucks Star J.T. Miller Reportedly Willing To Accept A Trade To Just One Team

Same age as Zibanejad, very similar contract...better offense, worse defense...and of course is an asshole

That means he will be here

This is a non starter. Do you think for one minute Tocchet would want a pussy like Zib back in return?  If that’s the case then there’s really something wrong with J.T.

You pretty much nailed it. More likely Pettersen gets traded if one actually does.

I doubt they trade Pettersson at age 26.

Well, he had 103 points last year, 82 the prior season, and 99 back in 2021-22.  If you look at his numbers in more detail, last year he 42 of his 103 points were on special teams, the year before almost half (39 of 82) were.  You'd certainly expect him to add some offense.

That said, he's not a huge play driver, but more of a guy who knows how to finish and can make a good play.  He's not necessarily going to help you get the puck out of your zone, but he'll be there to help you finish.  On defense though he's a bit of a disaster, and is prone to the same kind of lazy defense we see from Lafreniere and Panarin...leaving the zone, not pursuing his guy...not providing an out for the defense

Then there's his emotion/personality, which can really put people against him (probably part of the reason the NYR and then TBL let him go, though part of course is his on-ice play and relative cost).

On the contract side his NMC converts to a 15 team NTC in 2027 and it's not as much bonus laden, so would be able to potentially be bought out.

He's definitely a personality, but wouldn't call him a motivator as much as a bully at times.  Certainly would clash with quieter guys, and not always in a positive way.

If you look at some of the Rangers biggest weaknesses...the ability to go up against the top lines of the opposition, the ability to get the puck out of their zone, then he's not at all going to help those things, but he would probably put up more points than Zibanejad, while at the same time give up more.

Not sure he'd work very well with Panarin and Lafreniere, think that line would have a real tough time defensively.

Josh Yohe (who covers the Penguins), claims the NYR offered Zibanejad for Miller earlier this year and the Canucks turned it down

Pettersen is not Tocchet's type. He's out of the pussy pail. Which puts him more in favour with Drury than Miller. And I'm not sold on Miller, but they are what they are.

Not sure Drury is an all skill kind of guy, I think that was more Gorton, who I think figured you needed a core set of skill guys that you could add grinder types to.   Drury seems to want to add more grit, though not necessarily very effective at it yet.  His first year obviously with all those flawed guys (Goodrow - to some extent, Nemeth, Tinord and Reaves), then guys like Carrick this year, and he's been very interested in Miller going back to before Miller signed the current contract.

Miller just seems to be too emotional, and lazy on defense...but doesn't so much shy away from the center of the ice.  I don't think he fixes anything, and perhaps worse in the bright lights of New York.  The center problem is hard to solve in the short term, and maybe in the long term...top line centers seldom change hands, so the problem becomes when you settle for what you can get and then get stuck with them for too long that it prevents other moves.

I think that's what happened when he extended Zibanejad...he tried to get Eichel, but couldn't figure out a deal (or Buffalo wanted too much to trade in state), and so he had to fall back on an option he had rather than go without a 1st line center altogether.  But here we are.

So the NYR and VAN came close to a trade, but it appears it was scuttled around 1st round pick protection terms.  Sounds like the core of it was Miller for Chytil, Lindgren, a 1st and maybe a guy or two from the three scratch players in Hartford (Sykora, Chmelar or Groulx).

Which would mean the Rangers would have ended up a defenseman short (which they'd have to go and fill), and then I guess it'd mean that Miller becomes your 2nd line center and Zibanejad goes down to be a 3rd line center....a lot of money tied up in a 3rd liner

Unless they think Mancini can stick and by default miller with Fox which is freaking scary. Jones can’t be the answer.

Say what???  Just say no to that booty rape.  First the dollars don’t work; second, what to do with Zib?  I guess we’re going to see how good a poker player Drury is. He needs to keep his powder dry and let the Nuk’s implode. JT’s price will only go down if the only team he’ll wave his NTC for is NYR.
