Laviolette

Doing pretty much what I thought he would, which is a huge improvement establishing some simple facts, players like Panarin and Kreider in particular need to adhere to.

“”“Still learning systems? Laviolette didn't want to hear it. "Backchecking is a universal language. There's no system involved there. Finishing your checks... competing for pucks is a universal language. Execution has to be a universal language. And so there's no excuses for that."””

“It was not good at all,” he said with his eyes in the air. “It’s unacceptable the first half of that game. It’s not who we are and who we want to be. We’ll talk about it and get back to work.”

I don't see this season not having a serious moment or two with Panarin maybe deciding a different address would be nice. They will clash with out a doubt.

One can only hope that Panarin asks out. We'll win more playoff games with Cuylle or Othmann as a rookie than with that thickhead.

NTCs have rarely been an impediment to moving a player but finding a team that can afford Panarin's cap hit will be.

We'll have to find a team that he'd be willing to go to, that has cap space to afford him and will probably have to take some cap back in order to move him. Not impossible but difficult...with limited possibilities.

If they need me to bleed, then I'll bleed for my team

Will be interesting to see if it has an effect...might be the first time we've seen a call-out like in the preseason since maybe Tortorella

Panarin has to go. That much is obvious.

Bump.

Forget about the stupid Panarin comments, this thread is about Laviolette. Lav needs to be commended for the season we've had. He did what he came in to do. Established the lines and kept them mostly intact. He helped improve the PP and the PK. The team is at the top of the regular season standings with just about the same personnel we had last season. One thing Lav cannot do, is improve the 5 on 5 play. That is up to the players IMO.

Yeah, those Panarin comments didn't age well. I'm no longer interested in moving him. 🙂

I did not expect Laviolette to be this effective, but it's like night and day between him and Gallant in terms of strategy and ability to adjust.  His approach will eventually wear off, but for sure I got this one wrong this year.

Totally agree. Panarin and Kreider gotta step up, no excuses. Laviolette's spot on about backchecking and hustle being universal. The team's gotta own up to the rough patches and bounce back.
