Laviolette Fired.

Pete fired today along with his defensive specialist Phil Housely. A little late Chris, a Christmas firing might have saved the season.

Interesting that Peca and Muse weren't terminated outright.....they "will have opportunities to interview for positions on the next coaching staff."

If they need me to bleed, then I'll bleed for my team

Pretty obvious step one, but also suggests Drury isn’t going anywhere yet

Drury SUCKS and must be held accountable for his messes.Posted by: @fishPretty obvious step one, but also suggests Drury isn’t going anywhere yet

Would he have had owners blessing or was he operating on his own? If he consulted Dolan it’s pretty safe to assume he ain’t going anywhere. Or as team president he’s doing this on his own trying to circumvent to much interest in his performance. Either way he deserves to go. He did nothing all season when some management leadership was required. And what A grade coach is going to want to be here, working for him, after this season. This is Drury’s mess no one else’s.

The depth of this team's failure is not going to be fixed in a single off season. You might be able to remove some of the rot in the core but it is going to have side effects. With that said I would bring Torterella back to get the most out of what is here. They might make the playoffs but won't be serious contenders until they get rid of the rot and weak ass players. I don't see Torts working well with Drury and Drury is a big part of the problem. You never publicly humiliate your players. NEVER. What purpose does it serve to do that? It destroys any value that player has left, and shows other players that you have no respect for them and shows potential players around the league that they don't want to come here. Drury is just another Ranger bad hire. He didn't have the chops to be hired in the first place.

This is on Drury. And it goes back to dumping Goodrow and Trouba, players with the qualities Drury has babbled about needing since last springs elimination by the Panthers. They were obviously a lot more important on the ice and especially in the dressing room than given credit for. Because when they got punted the team lost its way. A obvious leadership void. Instead of using the same methods to dump the real problems starting with Kreider, and back then possibly Panarin, Drury chose them.
And the methods backfired on Drury creating a toxic environment of negativity towards him, and an environment of pouting for players presumed to be next. And now Drury who should be fired will be required to use his same underhanded tactics to violate contract integrity to dump players. Drury didn’t exactly put his name out there as a honourable G.M. this season or create an environment attractive for future free agents. And it will be even less attractive after he dumps some of Kreider, Zibanejad, Panarin, K Miller and who knows who else.
Which brings us to Panarin and his settlement thing. He brings enough on the ice it’s debatable he needs to go. But he also has plenty of warts a lot of people will say won’t help you when the going gets tough. And if Drury wasn’t smart enough to have some contract outs drafted into this recent assault settlement, to allow some trade maneuvering ability, he was derelict and again should be fired. Panarin got himself into that predicament and it was a gift to the Rangers to move him if they chose to. So will see how that plays out.

It was evident for almost a year that Goodrow and Trouba would be the first to go....even a majority of fans said they had to go as both were grossly overpaid for what they brought to the table. The problems began with Drury's methods. However, I wouldn't go so far as to say he violated contract integrity -- he didn't do anything illegal (otherwise Buttface would have gleefully come down on him with a sledge hammer) and I am sure any of the other GMs would have used the same tactics if the occasion arose.Posted by: @cuyllrangerThis is on Drury. Considering the flimsy excuses used to move Goodrow and Trouba, Panarin should be gone.

Just because fans who have no connection to a dressing room and team leadership exhibited within, think players should be moved doesn’t mean they are right. Facts are facts they went to the conference finals last year with them, and this year without them showed no heart. Also went in the dumpster after Trouba got dumped. Coincidence? Or direct connection?
Contract integrity violated is the Player has a no move clause and you threaten to waive the player to force him to leave. That is clearly violating the integrity of the contract, and will probably have an affect on future UFA attempted signings. Zero G.M’s other than Drury have resorted to these tactics, and Player Agents are aware. Drury has basically established the Rangers will do anything necessary to dump a player. Typically an exit has some negotiation and give and take to establish a player exit. What Agent is going to recommend his client sign in New York now, given a choice between the Rangers and another team that honours their contracts.

Both Goodrow and Trouba weren’t performing on the ice. Goodrow had a career year in the playoffs, but was a passenger for the regular season and was pretty poor on defense too.
Trouba was done already, and Laviolette’s man on man defense was too much for a guy with slow decision making.
you can argue they both helped in the locker room, but their performance on the ice was below replacement players. Carrick has been a more effective player than Goodrow at a third of the process, while Borgen is a big improvement over Trouba.
For my mind, Drury and Dolan lost this team by their paranoia and poor handling of people both on the team and in the organization.
As for the waiver move, I saw a report somewhere that the lightning threatened McDonagh with a similar fate before he was sent to Nashville. That was in the offseason though, and was with Tampa facing a salary cap issue, so not exactly the same….and of course McDonagh has returned.
Then again they didn’t call him out publicly like Drury did along with Kreider.

The Rangers are in a horrible spot right now. The core is too old and, to repeat myself, as long as Dolan owns the NYR they will not win a cup. There is too much KAOS continually from the top and bleeds everywhere.
Lav lost the team about 1/2 way thru the season. The PP went from 19th to 27th and he was still running the same basic combo out there until the end of the season. They went from 13th to 31st in giving up high quality chances - maybe Lav's d system needed a change???? He might have seen the writing on the wall. There were many games where they where just not prepared and the goalies could not clean up the mess they faced. They always had trouble getting out of there own end, they did not handle any team that took away their time and space. He deserved to be fired.
The players are also at fault, but many of them had career years last year. The Rangers did not have enough talent in the C position to start this season. Trouba was off, Zib was completely lost, Chytil, well, you cannot rely on him. Carrick and Brod played way beyond what was expected, but you cannot expect those guys to make up for the fog that settle on the top guys. Miller showed uptoo late to right the ship. Laf signs a fat contract and then scores 6 goals in the last 41 games. Cuylle was a huge positive factor even when he wasn't scoring. He might be a perfect candidate for some other team to drop a fat contract on that the Rangers can't match. Rempe's improvement was obvious. Edstrom was also a factor until he was lost for the season.
The D was a mess, too. Lindgren looked like he had not recovered from his injury(IES), Trouba was slower and mentally MIA and K Miller is K Miller. Borgen seemed to settle down KMiller, but K Miller still managed at least 1 major mistake per game. Vaaka also seemed to be play a consistent non-mistake d, but the team still could not do whatever Lav was having them play in their own end. Schneider was mostly consistent, now we know he was injured during the season. Fox still delivered offense and jones might not stick here, but he is an NHL dman.
Goodrow did squat during last year's regular season. Good in the room means squat when you are playing like shit and never sitting in the pressbox. Trouba's contract became a problem when the cap did not increase by much during the covid years. I do not begrudge him the contract or the terms. However, it was time for him to go as the Rangers were up against the cap.
That Drury managed to dump both contracts and not get contracts back was a minor miracle. His delivery and style sucked, but that is what Dolan wants. Drury will be gone soon enough and it still wont matter.
So now the Rangers need another head coach. It almost does not matter who they choose. They are caught in an unfixable zone due to cap space, age, and Dolan.

Interesting in Kreider’s interview he talked about losing two Massive leaders. Goodrow and Trouba. And personally no doubt in my mind losing them hurt the Rangers. The rest of the disruptions and coaching question marks finished them off.

What else could Kreider say? It is the politically correct move to blame the Drury the bogeyman. CK still has to walk into the locker room. He is not going to throw other players/coaches under the bus. It also seems he was injured for large parts of the season. That would help explain his absurd season where he averages over 16 minutes per game and mostly primary time on the PP and comes away with 8 (EIGHT) assists???????Posted by: @cuyllrangerInteresting in Kreider’s interview he talked about losing two Massive leaders.
