Breaking... Details to follow
If they need me to bleed, then I'll bleed for my team

Fox's butt buddy is gone.... Maybe Fox will go with him...
Does retaining 50% mean that 50% of his remaining salary for '24/'25?

No -- 50% of the amount of the contract (a bit over $2 mil)....but he's only under contract for this season.Posted by: @pierre_pdareFox's butt buddy is gone.... Maybe Fox will go with him...

Yes retain 50% for the remainder of this season. Not a big deal for the Rangers. The Rangers are losing a big chunk out of their D. Playing with Fox and covering up a lot of Fox’s soft play is not easy. Fox, Schneider, Borgen, Miller, Jones, Vaikanainen and DeHaan is WEAK. Parssinen looks like a low impact add. I get Vesey he’s holding up Othmann, Bérard and Rempe. The Rangers are weaker after this trade.

This is about getting picks for 2 guys who were gone. De haan is NHL bottom pair and a UFA and Parssinen is another Newbomb Turk, big and fast and can't figure it out, also a RFA. Parssinen does hit. Maybe he figures it out.
Rangers have not had Brannstrom up from the Wolfpack yet, either.

His contract is worth $4.5M worth of Cap Hit, so the NYR retain $2.25M of that value...in terms of the actual dollars paid out, not sure exactly, but believe Colorado would just pay him what ever he's owed, or at worst the dollar costs are split between the two clubs.
He is a UFA in the Summer, so there's no retention beyond this year. As an aside, teams can only have up to 3 active salary retentions, so Drury could potentially retain more on two more contracts. Also, an individual player contract can only have salary retention done twice (like what happened with Patrick Kane where CHI retained 50%, and then Arizona retained 50% of the remainder, meaning the NYR only paid Kane 1/4 of his contract cap value).
Also worth noting, players who have salary retained, can't be traded back to the team that is retaining salary...not clear on all the details there though.

In terms of the trade, it's really about the picks for the Rangers. Of the two players, De Haan is like a 6/7 D-man so maybe they can flip him for another mid to late round pick...or maybe he just is a body that helps the NYR for the remainder of the season.
Parssinen was a long shot 7th rounder who made it to the NHL, you might remember him scoring against the Rangers in his first game (when with the Predators). He's never played more than the 45 games he put up in that first season (2022-23), though with 9 more games as a NYR he could break that record.
He put up 25 points in that first season, but then just had 12 last season (8G 4A), and has 11 in 37 games between NSH and COL this season.
Big boy (6-3 212) who has some strength, but perhaps average to below average skating and not necessarily the finishing skills. Can play center or wing, which is probably of interest to the NYR and is 24 years old. Will be an RFA this summer and has a $775K cap hit, so if they want to keep him around, it's not going to cost much.
Getting a 2nd and a 4th back helps provide a couple of picks that Drury traded away...probably would have been a good deal getting those with no players back 🙂

It doesn't make sense that we would have to pay half of $4.5M (2.25M) to a player that we already paid 59/82 game checks to. That would man retaining 50% would end paying more than $4.5M for lindgren. He has already cost the Rangers ~72% of his cap hit or ~$3.25M and would pay $2.25M more. It must mean that the Rangers are on the hook for half of the $~1.25M still owed on his contract no? Why would you trade him with 50% retain to have to pay double of what you owe him? you could have just let him walk at the end of the season.Posted by: @fishPosted by: @pierre_pdareFox's butt buddy is gone.... The retained salary mainly has to do with the cap hit nonsense/matching contract cap hits between the Rangers and Col based on the players salaries.
Now Drury needs to trade Smith too so we can see regular shifts from these 4: Kaliev/Bedard/Parssinen/Othmann

Well no, because players are paid twice a month, so in terms of actual dollars, it'll be a fraction. But the Cap number isn't the money that is necessarily paid to the player, especially where bonuses are in place, as they will be either paid up front, on a schedule or as the result of certain achievements. The amount of money the NYR actually pay Lindgren will be the majority of the season's cost, because they've already paid a majority.

Yes....as long as injury is revealed and acquiring team agrees.Posted by: @steadyeddiePosted by: @x10003qNow Drury needs to trade Smith too so we can see regular shifts from these 4: Kaliev/Bedard/Parssinen/Othmann
