That's ok... Let him get some games under his belt and we can bring him up when they trade Laf.  Who (laf) did next to nothing to earn a spot on this team during a camp where he should of excelled.I think if they gave Othmann Lafs, minutes that he would easily out perform him. He is out of excuses. I don't think his teammates like/respect him and I think he wants to go to MTL. And if he goes there and lights it up, then that just proves he was a schmuck.

Harpur and Brodzynski waived for now Cuylle remains as he should. He earned the chance, based on what he did in camp, which is the way it should be.

I really didn't think they'd keep Cuylle around, but I am pleased they did

Some chatter about his play last year which is basically irrelevant other than he looks a lot better than during last seasons callup. A summer of training with “some” of young guys can elevate their game. Which u can see Cuylle improved his overall game over his summer. Rangers need him and his potential physicality to cement a third line spot.

I think the Garden fans are going to like this kid. He has good skills, is fearless (not a pussy)and also plays smart and hard. I think this sends a positive message to some players and sends a shape up or ship out message to others. This team needs to overcome a lot to become serious contenders and becoming tougher/grittier is one of them. This is a step in the right direction. I said last year after the dismal showing in the playoffs that I wanted Cuylle and Othmann to make the team because I was pissed off that the Rangers East/West style doesn't play well in the playoffs and that we would continue to flounder against gritty playoff hardened style teams. They aren't the total answer, but a step in the right direction.

I also thoght that Jones played well on D in the pre and would like to see him get more playing time. You never have too many D men.

Othmann should’ve made the team, but the AHL did a lot to develop Cuylle. They play a similar game, so let him play a ton of minutes down there.

Jones made the big club last season too but didn't stay.  Not sure Cuylle will last 40 games in the NHL but we'll see.  True test will be playing against real NHL opponents when the games start counting.

Cuylle will play all season in the NHL. He clearly has the it factor for his role. Where as Lafreniere seems to have been ruined by the Rangers.

No real surprises. Happy Brodzynski and Harpur cleared, gives the Rangers some depth. Don’t get the love for Jones, never seen much of anything out of him. Maybe there is a trade out there for a Harpur type with a little more talent. That would be Jones best use to the Rangers. He’s got a long ways to go to be on the Rangers powerplay. Another Lunqvist, square peg with only round peg spots left. Was also mystified by Drury signing Holewell another shrimp. But I guess they like him for Hartford .

No real surprises from camp, especially not surprised Cuylle is here and expect him to stick all year. A slot is there for him on the third line LW as Lafreniere’s replacement who has to produce as a right wing. Lafreniere gets a lot of flack on here for his camp, last I looked I don’t think any veterans were overly good. Third most even strength goals is not a misprint. That’s pretty good considering his ice time, he was also good on the kid line when dum dum had them together. I expect both him and Kakko to take a jump in their overall games, and production assuming Laviolette gets them both top six minutes and power play time.
Othmann sent down a numbers thing and gives him an opportunity to go down and light it up and if he does back up here after 20 games, pushing Vesey or Pitlick off the roster.

Josh Bailey 1 goal 5 assists in his Ottawa tryout and released. If available on a minimum contract he'd be a better fourth liner than Vesey or Pitlick.

With few exceptions the veterans didn't need to be good. But Laf f ing boy does. he (and some people) thinks he is top 6.  He knows Drury wants to ship him out (rumor was he was trying to get a first round pick for him at the deadline and nobody bit) and is prolly butthurt over the whole situation. I hope he puts up a point per game in the first 20 games but it's on him to produce and earn more ice time. But let's stop making excuses for his piss poor performance... Give him top 6 minutes and #2 PP time and see where he is after 20 games. If somebody else earns his spot then tough for him. The only tools a coach has with his players is ice time and the press box.  And that needs to be fair to all the players.
