Panarin traded to LA
In exchange for prospect Liam Greentree and a conditional third round pick. The third round becomes a 2nd if the Kings win a playoff round, or will be the better of the two 3rd round picks the Kings hold. They'll also add a 2028 4th if the Kings win 2 playoff rounds
Hoooo boy, what a horrid, horrid return. Even Philly got way, way more for Claude Giroux even though it was well known he only wanted to go to Florida AND was signing in Ottawa in the offseason.

And Calgary got a first for Markstrom...and the Isles a first, two an NHLer, a prospect and another pick for Brock Nelson from the Avs - both of them waived their no trades to go to those teams.
Not to mention that the Rangers retained 50% and Panarin signed for 2 years at $11M per with LA
Pretty underwhelming
Unless Greentree is a blue diamond stud, and he's only rated a mid 6 forward, that trade is ridiculous. Immediate recall is I can't remember a player of Panarins stature bringing such a dismal return. New York is providing a good laugh in NHL G.M.'s bullshit sessions today. Fabulous fabulous trade by L.A. And with that return it has officially become a rebuild not a retool. So its build through the draft. Not getting a first pick is a killer.
Edit for a third time still pissed. Drury is paid a huge $$ because he's supposed to be good at this. There isn't a guy on this board couldn't have got that return with one phone call to Holland in L.A. Its Drury's job to maximize trade results. He blew it. He must have Garth Snow on secret retainer for advice. Rangers don't have a lot left to trade now to rebuild. They got Trocheck left to bring back anything of value. This is a bad day in Rangertown.
Let me get this right. Rangers retain 50% of salary and don’t get a first round pick in return? Drury needs to friggin go. Guess he’ll trade Trocheck for a bag of pucks. Fuck Dolan.

Pretty underwhelming is the understatement of the century. Just unbelievable.

Drury panicked and shit the bed. 2 weeks he gave Panarin. You have to believe some of the teams that were reported interested would have gone 4 years at $11,000,000 per. Kings give Drury the now or never ultimatum and Drury caved. Drury waits tells Panarin camp he better come up with another trade partner or two or he’s sitting for the rest of the year. Panarin would not want to sit. Put a vacuum salesman in a room with used car salesmen and this is what Yu get.

I find it amazing that you have all the insight and know exactly what goes on behind closed doors. Kings give Drury the now or never ultimatum and Drury caved? Who is your source?
Now the reality from what I have read. Panarin held all the cards. Why? NO MOVEMENT CLAUSE, and "I want a contract extension."
What in terms of player personel did it cost us to get Panarin? Why not be thanful we got something, anything in return, instead of a UFA for nothing at the end of the season. Stop crying.
I haven't posted in a while and frankly I've had a difficult time watching the Rangers ever since Drury screwed Goodrow. I get that it's a business but when management screws players like Drury did, from Goodie all the way down to Trubbs and then dumps Kreider... I gotta say, who would want to come play for this team. And kudos to Bread for sticking it to the Rangers or should I say sticking it to Drury. It sure sez why, if you play for the Rangers, you better have a "No-Move" clause or you'll probably get screwed. Anyway..... Drury needs to go...PERIOD... are you telling me we couldn't have extended Bread for two stinking years. Look I get it if the Rangers didn't want to commit long term, but a two-year extension at 11 mil per is a fkn bargain for the breadman. Tell me which combination of player and salary that equals 11 million will produce the points per year bread did.... go ahead tell me....
Un fkn believable
I get it. We’re all pissed off cause this team we love has only hoisted the Chalice once in the last 85 years, give or take one. We’re all tired of “Letters.” We’re all tired of no player development plan. We’re all tired of labor - just show us the baby. I just fear that won’t happen as long as Dolan is CEO. I don’t even want to mention the Knicks. He’s the root cause and us fans are screwed as long as he runs the show. I believe we can all agree on that.
Interesting article,

I can’t. You’re spot on. Goodie, JT, Kreids, now Bread. What came back? The hole in a doughnut. Drury is in way over his head and Dolan loves groupthink. Think I’ll bust out that bottle of Oban I’ve been saving
Now that more info is coming out about the Panarin trade, it is clear that Panarin is more interested in where he will be living than money (2 x $11mill) or a chance at the Cup. He did give the Rangers a discount when he signed in 2019 so he remained consistent in not chasing a max contract. There are reports that he turned down 4 x $14million in Seattle and that his agent knew all along that LA was the only destination.
I am no fan of Drury, but it is hard to blame him for the return in this situation. I also doubt that Panarin would have signed a 2 x $11million contract with the Rangers. It has been great to watch his ability in the offensive end of the ice, but keeping him to the end of this season only would have made the draft position of the Rangers worse going forward and netted the Rangers nothing.
Ultimately, signing an age 34 Panarin for millions/multiple years in light of the current Rangers situation would have been stupid.
1 Cup in 85 years
