I guess they prefer Edstrom, at least in the short term

A no brainer, Edström can do anything right now Pitlick can and then some,  plus Edstrom has the size and the anticipated continued growth in his game. Rangers just got better.
I liked him a lot in training camp, his NHL wheels were very evident. But probably a good thing he went back to Hartford and worked at his game. He’s going to help on the bottom six.

They need the size improvement. Not sure Edstrom brings all that much on the skill side.

If Laviolette gets it in his head he likes the third line as is, there might not be much happen at the trade deadline.

I'm actually surprised they seemingly rushed to put Pitlick on waivers.  He was a bit of a nothing special kind of player, but still figured they'd want to keep him around for depth, given the limited options they have on right wing...though perhaps not a big chance he's going to get claimed, so giving Edstrom a longer look in the short term at least.

Either way, it doesn't have a huge impact on the Cap figure, but sending Pitlick down means the Rangers will be carrying a 21 man roster with just Jones as the spare

Pitlick actually could skate and has some all around skills. Playing with zero offense Goodrow/Bonino as center doomed Pitlick's offense and Lav did not use him on the PK. He was 7th on the Rangers in hits while only playing 10min/game. He has more hits than Lindgren, CK, Vesey, and Laf. His salary is minimal for cap savings. Not a big loss. Maybe the rangers know he will go to Hartford.

Hopefully, Edstrom will at least replicate Pitlick with the added size bonus.

Goodrow had a very serious mouth injury and had to eat through a tube for weeks. When he got hit by the puck he lost part of his jaw, not teeth. That type of injury has a terrible affect on diet and eating for a significant time. Resulting in a huge negative affect on stamina and strength, which I suspect Goodrow is still working at getting back. I have faith in Goodrow come playoff time.

Pitlick clears, and is assigned to Hartford
