As it stands right now, the Rangers could still end up as 1st in East, 2nd in East or even 2nd in Metro...though they have the advantage on the teams trailing them right now.

If it was to start today, then the NYR would face Detroit in the first round

Potential opponents for 1st in East:

NYI - 5 GR - 85 Pts - 35 Wins - 26 RW (currently 3rd in Metro)
DET - 5 GR - 84 Pts - 38 Wins - 27 RW (currently 2nd Wildcard)
PIT - 4 GR - 84 Pts - 36 Wins - 31 RW (currently 3rd in wildcard race) - unlikely
WSH - 5 GR - 83 Pts - 36 Wins - 28 RW (currently 4th in wildcard race)
PHI - 4 GR - 83 Pts - 36 Wins - 28 RW (currently 5th in wildcard race) - unlikely
NJD - 4 GR - 79 Pts - 37 Wins - 32 RW (currently 6th in wildcard race) - very unlikely
BUF - 4 GR - 79 Pts - 37 Wins - 31 RW (currently 7th in wildcard race) - very unlikely

Potential opponents for 2nd in East:
TOR - 5 GR - 99 Pts - 45 Wins - 32 RW (currently 3rd in Atlantic) - very unlikely
TBL - 5 GR - 93 Pts - 43 Wins - 35 RW (currently 1st Wildcard) - very likely

Hope the Rangers avoid the isles first round. Will be hyped by the media and a mess of distractions. And the pilses would play the cheap shot style trying to get the Rangers off their game.

Do not want. The last thing we need is a team coming into the playoffs red hot like Florida was last year. The piles are coming in hot too, but they are beating lesser opponents than the Pens are. Give me Fishsticks. Don't forget, 30 years ago... just sayin

Piles play the Pens in the last game of the season. Hope for a bloodbath.

I think Detroit or the Binghamton Whalers lol would be the best bet. I don’t like the Ilses at all Roy has been through the hoops many times and learned a lot in Montreal. Who can forget the year they beat Ted Sators Rangers and on to a cup with probably the worst team that ever won a cup. Pitt with a healthy Crosby is dangerous. How many times can Trouba knock him out of the series.?

So we're down to four teams, with the Capitals holding onto 8th right now:

Capitals - beat PHI tomorrow, OR lose in OT/SO AND have DET and PIT lose in any fashion
Red Wings - need Caps to lose tomorrow in some fashion AND beat MTL tomorrow, or OT/SO and have WSH lose in reg AND PIT lose
Penguins - beat NYI on Wednesday AND have WSH and DET lose in any fashion
Flyers - need to beat WSH tomorrow AND have DET lose to MTL tomorrow AND PIT to lose to NYI tomorrow...all in regulation

They are better off playing anyone of those four, rather than Tampa.

If they need me to bleed, then I'll bleed for my team

Those matchups look like the best-case scenario for the Rangers. Now they just need to execute on the ice.

Rangers got the team that nobody would argue is the most favourable opponent. It’s on them now.
