Rempe resigns 2 years

One of the many free agents signed, Rempe back for 2 years @ $975K

I like it. Garrick, Rempe and Edstrom was a serviceable fourth line. Maybe Frederics with Othmann and Perreault on a third line and Zibanejad, Miller, Cuylle, Trochek, Lafreneniere and Panarin in the top six. Couple of decent dmen and might have a bit of bounce back.

Rempe showed a vast improvement during the season. This is a good signing. Hopefully Edstrom will have recovered. Maybe Sully will give the 4th line real minutes to take some pressure off the the other forwards. Lav refused to give the 4th line any real time.

There's been some reports that Frederic is going to sign an extension with Edmonton and that it's going to be an eye-watering number

I agree that Rempe improved as the season went on, and at any rate, it can be buried if it doesn't pan out. I think coaches tend to limit their 4th line when teams are trailing, because you need to score goals, and the NYR were trailing a lot last year. If the Rangers continue to trail a lot under Sullivan, I expect the 4th will see just as little time too.
On the positive side, Rempe went up from around 5 minutes to 8 minutes a game last season, so he became a bit more reliable.

While this is true, Rempe's 5 min games where usually 4:30 in the first 2 periods plus 1 shift in the 3rd and that is just stupid. Every game and opponent has different things happening, but losing in the 1st and 2nd period shouldn't mean gluing the 4th line to the bench during the 1st and 2nd period. Getting the 4th line more shifts early in the games keeps the top 6 fresher at the end. That is basic coaching shit. Kind of like not running out your 1 for 497 #1 power play group every power play for the whole power play. It almost seemed like Lav gave up midway thru the year.Posted by: @fishPosted by: @x10003qRempe showed a vast improvement during the season. This is a good signing. I have higher hopes for Sullivan.

If not Frederics( I hope he likes -30 winter weather) who’s the next man up?

Was there perhaps a relationship between Rempe's ice time increase to a decrease in his PIM's?
If they need me to bleed, then I'll bleed for my team
Read that Frederic will sign long term for approximately 3.2 million a year.

Robertson signed Two years. Has probably moved into a possibility if Drury continues screwing up most everything he touches. Almost out of Gorton acquired players that were integral to recent cup runs. As a business method you can’t keep dumping your “best” players to acquire cap room and get nothing in the way of warm bodies back. Interesting what Gorton has going in Montreal with a team that will make some noise this year.
This crew Drury has assembled and yes it’s his team, that could easily continue a downward spiral with a new coach with ten years in the league coaching two of the top players in the world, and a dman a notch below, winning a couple cups his first two years and basically nothing since.
Getting real hard to be optimistic around here.

Given how little they have in terms of defensive prospects, I think they may have been forced a little into extending Robertson just because they don't have many other option. I'm okay with it, certainly wasn't enough to draw much of a conclusion from the 2 games he played (although I remember him getting blown past in the 2nd to last game, but he ended his 2 game stint with a +3).
It's difficult to compare Montreal and New York because they were at different stages. Gorton may be better suited to building a team, than getting them to be legit competitors, or it may be that he finds success in Montreal with different guys around him than in New York, or he may be a guy the Rangers let get away. He wasn't perfect for sure, the drafting of Lias Andersson felt like an avoidable fail, the Kravtsov one seemed a miss too, and of course the trade of McDonagh and Miller to Tampa turned out to be one of the worst in franchise history.
